Is it possible to change the cabinet colour of vantage.

I would like mahogany, but it's not available in that type of wood.

Maybe it needs first to be sand.

Anyone tried?

If you don't have Mahogany wood you wont get Mahogany by sanding. You will need to re veneer or drink enough beer to change the color !

Needless to say, be careful to avoid electrocution if you open up the cabinet, especially since the Vantage has an internal amplifier.

What I meant was to sand the wood and stain it. I could also remove the veneer and apply wood veneer that match my antique furniture. If I choose to do so, I know it will be more work (removing the veneer) but it can be done. Veneer ca also be applied onto the old veneer if it's in perfect condition (easier)

As for the beer, I never drink alcool. So this is not an option.

Don't do it - you'll damage the veneer (it might start peeling) and all that dust is absolutely no good for any part of the speaker.

Does the veneer on the vantage is varnished or not? I suppose it is.

Maple would be easier to stain. If I were to sand anything I would protect everything.

As having just a tad bit of wood working experience. The only way you are even going to attempt to sand them down is take them apart . Remove the panel assembly. Since this is a rotary cut veneer its thin. The corners are sharp and detail will be lost. If you are dead set on Mahogany color why did you buy what you have? This project can be done a few ways but its a 8 out of 10 difficulty.
It may be cheaper to call ML and ask if they could strip and re veneer them. I know they do it to production speakers that are damaged. I say enjoy what you have. Like a fat girl she will grow on ya !

To CAP,
I didn't buy them, but in 1 to 3 weeks (2 pay checks) I will have enough money to buy vantage.

I've seen some used vantage that were beautiful. When my wife saw them she agreed, but the only colour that would match our decor is black.

From martin logan web site, if i want natural wood, i would have to go to spire or summit. Tempting but that would mean waiting again until I have enough money.

So you know why I'm asking.

Having toured the ML factory, I recall them having naked woofer BOXES (before the veneer finish is put on). Since the Vista is available for order via their online Custom Shop, I suspect (for an extra $ premium) they'd be willing to do a custom mahogany finish. I would call and ask.

One possibility:

I've just saw an ads for an ascent i.

I have no idea, how they sound (the model). I have never heard ascent or ascent i.
I have heard other models in the past, sl3, vantage, statements(wow!!!).

Those of you of have heard both, is it an interesting choice?

Forget the ascent. It's the vantage that I want.

I've tried something: I've put a small maple furniture next to my antique. It looks perfect.

So, to sanding, or staining for me. Just find a nice maple vantage and enjoy.:music:

Hola Daniel...the dark cherry color is somewhat kind of red too, like mahogany...see it at the ML webb site: http://www.us.martinlogan.com/display_speaker/vantage.html
Hope this can help!
Roberto.

I know, but it's more redish and it really doesn't match our antique.

I'm trying just what you told me. I have an old chest that I always hated. So I applied dark brown on one side and black on another. I'm letting it dry. I will polish it later, and apply a second coat. I'll let you know the result.

p.s. My antique are not mahogany but dark walnut. My mystake.
