I am in the process of building a dedicated room which is 12x20 ft running ml oddessey's on the short wall .The room is in the basement with cement floor.

Which is the better flooring option and why? Hardwood or carpet. If it is carpet, would you use say a berber which isn't too thick as opposed to a thick carpet. Also, would cork be a good option?

Thanks, Greg

I've heard both sound really really good. It's like anything else. Doing it properly. If you like the look of hardwood then do it with a area rug (which you should do anyway from a design/decorative standpoint). If you like the carpet then go for it. My dad has CLSIIz on hardwood and it sounds great. One of the best ML systems I've ever heard was with hardwood/area rug. The WAF might come into this.....

I built the same type of room about 15 years ago. I carpeted with berber over a cement floor. The room does not exhibit much "slap echo" and I find that Logans in this environment sound anything but bright. I recommend this type of set-up.

Carpet every time! If you want/need to go the hard floor option, then you should look at getting carpet at least between the speakers and your listening position. Like everything though - it is part of a bigger picture - I'd like a room with good acoustics and hard floor over a poor room with carpet.
