I'd really like to do some testing using Nordost Blue Heaven ICs. Anyone got a set they could lend me for a few weeks?

Tom.

Tom, you can borrow a pair of mine, but I only have XLRs. These could be used with adaptors if you can score some. It could at least give you some idea of what they sound like.

Balanced audio technology makes adapters, but they are like $90. Its a very nice offer that tonyc made, but I would try regular rca's if that is what you are going to be using. I auditioned nordost cables with a cary/ monitor audio setup once and was very impressed.

TONYC- any interest in selling them? I need a better pair for myself.

Contact me via email Aerius.

The Cable Company provides loaners if you pay to join their at-home testing program. You can try any cables they sell and see if any make a difference.

If you are still looking for a loaner pair, let me know. I have a pair of 1mtr the I can send for a test run. I'll just swap in a Kimber Hero IC for my center run while you demo them. If you do want to borrower them just send me a pm with your address and I can get them out early this week.

Thanks to J Lustig for letting me borrow some Blue Heavens.. I hooked them up from my Squeezebox to the inputs of my Denon receiver.

They are VERY cool looking, but I could not hear any improvements in my system.. .

The rest of my system is cabled with RadioShack RS Gold interconnects which seem pretty beefy and the connectors fit on TIGHT!

So, what do you guys think? Should I try them from my Denon to my Carver which is powering my reQuest panels or should I just give up and chalk it up to the fact that the rest of my system isn't high end enough? Any thoughts would be greatly appreciated... I feel like I'm missing something.

Tom, do try them between the Denon and the Carver. I have never heard the squeezebox tho' I am anxious to try one. I will be quite surprised if you do not hear a difference.

Hey Tom, I'm glad you had a chance to hook them up. If you need them for another week or so until you get a chance to hook them up to the carver, feel free to hang on to them.

When I switched out to the Blue Heavens I did both speaker and IC's at the same time. I guess I wasn't smart enough to do it gradually and look for differences as I went. I was running Tara Labs Prism speaker wire and Kimber Hero IC's. To my ears there was a noticable difference. Keep us posted on your discoveries.

Tom,
I just bought a set of Blue Heavens to try out and received them late yesterday afternoon. I hooked them up from my cd player to my pre/pro and noticed an immediate difference. Cleared things up alot, better placement of performers and their instruments but just a hair thinner on the bass. At this point I would call them very very precise, almost "sterile" if that makes any sense. I'm going to give them time to break in a tad, actually I think I'm going to buy a cable cooker as I just don't have the patience to wait for cables to break in. Move em around, you should hear a difference as it was blantantly obvious in my system. Hope this helps ya.

John

I'm guessing it would be though to hear a difference with the Denon receiver and other Rat Shack cabling in the audio path. As the saying goes, your system is only as good as the weakest link.

Actually I use a Sony ES receiver currently for my processor and while I am sure a higher end unit would give me much more audio pleasure but it didn't stop me from picking up some differences between the set ups. I assume a higher end processor will only emphasize the differences that much more. Some day I will find out!

And then there is the difference between a processor and a really good preamp.

You may notice a difference with changing just one pair in the chain but if you swap out all cables in the chain with a particular model you are much more likely to hear a difference. You won't always hear a difference between cable models because some cables have similiar characteristics or traits. It depends on what you are comparing to.

I especially like the sonic traits of Audience AU24 cable so I went with all AU24 interconnects and biwire speaker cables.

However, expect more dramatic differences with changes in room acoustics, speaker setup, speakers, source components, system components, and tube rolling. Once your system is close to your liking after addressing these other areas then try different cables. You'll hear more of a difference between cables in a more refined system and the highly revealing nature of electrostats are excellent for detecting any change in your system.
