Some of you may remember this thread which got a bit out of hand...

http://www.martinloganowners.com/forum/showthread.php?t=8740

One upshot is I lost my patience, and tried some Cif on it (abrasive kitchen cleaner). It now looks like a mess, and still doesn't play. I'm not surprised.

Saw this ebay auction yesterday, thinking I'd pick up a fresh copy easily for nowt. Er... no!:) Check the price! You can buy a re-issue with a CD layer (still expensive at £30), or a double vinyl copy cheaply, but this is the SACD only release.

My wife is watching me post this, calling me a complete idiot! She has a point. It occurs to me that T-Cut may well save it - I'll try it later. If not, double vinyl it is...:)

The SACD copy sounds incredible. Can anyone vouch for the sound quality of the double vinyl? If so, can you state a label and year of pressing? I haven't followed the different releases of this. But I do need a replacement.

Naw.....just a disagreement of facts and opinions...

Watch Amazon for USED prices. Great deals pop up there from dealer associates. You just have to watch for it.

T-Cut didn't work - but it's a much better bet than Cif.

Actually, I did look into it quite a bit DTB300 - including the much more rigorous error checking employed (by complete and utter necessity) by the higher density formats. I just never found anything conclusive - actual cross comparisons between damaged or abused disks and the "real & practical" effectiveness of recovery across medium to high density optical disks.

Once TOC is hit it is usually Frisbee time - of course depending on the amount of damage. Some people claim they have buffed out damage, others say they had complete opposite experience. I have some discs that are really beat up and they play fine, then others do not play fine. Depends on type of damage. Just like any source.

Keep an eye on Amazon for a used copy of the Beck as you might get one for substantially less cost than the absurd Ebay priced one.

One odd thing about Beck Sea Change, at least the with the DVD Audio 5.1 Surround Sound version, it has some weird DC pulse that blows the fuse in my amp whenever I play the third song about 20 seconds in.

I don't know what it will do in Stereo only mode, but I think I had heard from some others that for some weird reason this album does some strange things.

But I am guessing Justin that you are in to weird things so it might be okay.:D

From your Amsterdam descriptions, Joe, I'm guessing long hair, tie dyed tee-shirt, flares and other things that would be considered "weird" circa 2009:D Then again, I'm probably wrong...

Anyway, this disk seems to be acquiring legendary status. Not many disks I know that can shutdown a system with ease:eek::devil:

Oh Wayne - I think I'm going to go with the German dual layer release. MoFi maybe good, but they can't break the laws of phyiscs i.e. make 44.1 sound like SACD. Assumes to some extent that German release was generated from the same digital file(s) as the SACD layer only release, I suppose. The music gets quite quiet in places, which lends itself to a digital copy in my book.

Now, how can I sell the copy I have for $200+??? 50 hours more T-cutting?:D

It's a great album but current prices on the discontinued SACD's are a little ridiculous. There is a new version of the Beck Sea Change album on the gold CD format by Mobile Fidelity. It is supposed to be a remastered version and retails for about $30 US dollars. Check out Music Direct and other sites that sale the MF product line.

Hopefully, some of these CD producers will see how much their discontinued SACDs are now selling for and start producing more SACDs again. I can only imagine what the Michael Jackson "Thriller" SACD is worth these days.

Abrasive kitchen cleaner??? What were you thinking? At this point you should try using a 3 stage acrylic polishing product. The kind used to buff and polish scratches from acrylic surfaces. See Novus.

MoFi was discussed above. I'll keep an eye out for acrylic cleaner...
