Hello, everyone! My name is Paul & I am actually not a Martin-Logan owner. Rather, I come from sort of the other end of the party -- I was until recently "Senior Design Engineer" at Credence Speakers, Inc. Among other things, Credence manufactured the 12" woofer used in (I believe?) the Monolith III, and I was the guy who sampled that unit to Martin-Logan. In fact, that was the 1st woofer I had approved by a customer for Credence (I was a "newbie" engineer at Credence at the time.)
I say "recently" above as Credence has heavily downsized: We were once over 300 employees, making over 1/2 million woofers a year for various customers. So, my job no longer exists, and I have gone back to something I did before Credence: A little business I have called PR Audio. And I am job hunting too, as trying to, essentially, get a "new" small business off the ground & make enough to live on, in the present economic (etc.) environment is... well... interesting, to say the least.
PR Audio does a lot of different "stuff" including speaker repair and reconing, however, I want to state right off the bat that I am NOT an authorized Martin-Logan repair facility! If you have a problem with one of their speakers, they are the best people to talk to. Now if you have an old Bose / AR / JBL / Infinity, etc., for a 2nd room or something, that needs help, that's a different story. Ditto for that Altec / EV / JBL / etc. you just smoked in your gig last weekend over at the local nightclub (if you are into that.)
In the beginning, ie., before Credence, I was also building good quality (but not quite in price range of Martin-Logan) speaker systems. I haven't done much with that, outside of repair jobs that turn into upgrades, and some Pro Sound stuff, for a while.
At any rate, I'm here mainly because of the old "connection" with M-L, and to sort of get better caught up on what's going on with top notch electrostats and high end in general. My "area" is not quite so high end, but I suppose I'm due a "tune-up" of sorts! :music:
Please stop by my website, www.praudio.com, sometime and say "hi". I plan to add some more tech discussions, drivers, etc., there, in the future.
And, BTW, would I like to be able to afford a M-L speaker someday? You bet!!!
