I was in the process of planning some isolation devices for the Spires and a deal came across my way I couldn't refuse (watched the Godfather the other day) and couldn't resist it!
I have been reading many threads here and other places about conditioners, regenerators, transporters and flux capacitors and how they would help make better sound. I'm somewhat of a skeptic when it comes to these items. I had a Richard Gray 600 http://www.richardgrayspowercompany.com/products.aspx?type=parallel which held the CDP, pre amp and speakers and had the amps plugged directly into the wall. The Pole Pig http://www.richardgrayspowercompany.com/products.aspx?type=isolation is an isolation device. When used together they become a Richard Gray ISO System. The Pole Pig is plugged into the 600 and the 600 is then plugged into the wall.
The new setup consists of the CDP, Pre amp and speakers plugged into the Pole Pig and the amps into the 600. The 600 will pass 20 amps and the PP just 700 watts so some math was required on my part to establish a baseline.
I was expecting perhaps only a slight decrease in noise but I was happily disappointed. While tonality did not change, the bass has seemed to have yawned and woken up. I've had to turn the 35hz knob down a full db from the previous setting. The mids and highs are a bit clearer and hearing an upright bass stings vibrate the way it does now is awe inspiring! What was most surprising to me was the depth of the stage had a very real increase. As expected, the silence is deafening which was my main goal but there were the additional benefits I was not expecting. My best analogy would be everything got a bath
I realize that the PSA PPP and Running Springs are the latest "hot ticket" and could have gone in that direction but I had half of one system and thought I'd complete it before moving on to something else perhaps in the future.
So I'm going to have to stuff my cynicism into a box and only let it out when the snake oil alert hits real hard. This ISO Gray System is the real to me and find it was a pleasant surprise!
