a neat Sub-Woofer improvement !

I had a little 'mini-gathering' at my place this past Saturday, Dan(DTB300) his daughter and Erik (eknuds01) came over for some backyard 'Live steam' demonstration along with a little food and some listening to my Logan setup.

Dan brought with him this neat board / stand made by Auralex that we inserted under my sub-woofer and it made an imediate impovement to the bottom end. Keep in mind I have been very happy with my Velodyne DD-15, but this little trick further tightened and reinforced the bottom octaves.

Also of note , the floor upon which my sub resides is carpet over concrete.

If interested check it out on the Auralex web site

I didn't know what to expect from this little tweak when Dan and I placed the DD 15 on the foam stand. I've never heard a sub that wasn't just sitting on floor. The difference was noticeable. For those of you with subs in their 2 channel setups looking for a relatively cheap tweak, give this a shot. The bass was a little more focused and tight as Dave mentioned.

I've seen some people do that to their subs.. and also their mains!

Which leads me to take it one step further and say... what if we put Aurelex under our main speakers?

Dave?

Ok folks, get out of my head! :p Hee hee,,, I had been wondering this week if anyone had placed spikes under their subs (specifically Klipsch)? Or a mat or stand? My sub is located on natural hardwood flooring in the corner behind my left side Vantage.
Do you think this mat works only with downward firing subs such as mine?

I had the Great Gamma stands for use under my old TV set which sat on my old sub as a way to remove vibrations to the TV (even though the sub did not vibrate that much). So when the new TV arrived, for which I built a custom stand, I used the Gamma again under the TV. Made for a nice solid base and it would have no chance of ever sliding on the custom stand (new sub sits under my custom TV stand now, so no more Sub/TV stand combo :D). When I ordered the Great Gamma, they shipped two and charged me for one, so another sat in the corner for quite a bit.

Now I have to give Jeff Z credit for trying this out, as after he built his custom stand for his sub reported great sonic improvements with it. So I put my extra Gamma under my sub, and heard the same type of improvements. Tighter sound which gives us the chance to increase either the volume and/or crossover point and still have great integration with our CLS's.

The one used by a lot of folks is the Sub-Dude by Auralex, but you can also build your own.

Well thanks to "Zero's" suggestion I stopped into my local 'Habbitat for Hunanity' store and snatched up a nice piece of marble for $20, used my buddies diamond tipped saw, cut it to 16 1/2" sq and it now resides under my DD-15.....Sweeeeet !!!
