Hey everyone. I just opened a new descent and connected it. When I turned it on it made a loud hum and then stared going pop pop pop pop pop on a regular interval. I disconnected the LFE input, so it is connected to nothing but a power source, and the sub still makes the hum then pop and with the level at zero it is still very loud. Is this a defect in the speaker??????

Had a similar problem with my descent... I think they are very sensitive to ground loop issue. this may - or may not be your issue: suggestion - go out and buy a 69 cent 'cheater plug' (3 prong to 2 prong adaptor) and see if the problem goes away. This fixed my problem. Now - you will at least know it is not the speaker - but a ground loop. If you choose - you can then hunt down the ground loop issue within your system.

I swore the issue was with my sub - it was not.... I brought it to the dealer- they plugged it in... and no problem existed....

That sux when you get a new toy and it fails right out of the box. It makes you wanna puke ! Good luck and be patient , I know its hard but Martin Logan will not be open tomorrow !

Why am I not really surprised to see YET ANOTHER Descent hum? I have always thought that its built quality could be much better. I was one of the early owners and had this same problem. After 6 months or so of fiddling in and out, my dealer gave up and got me a new one. Am glad to say the new one is behaving as a sub should so far.
