SOLD my CLX, to me again!

I also have loved my CLX paired with JL Audio E110 subs. Unfortunately a move is forcing me to sell them, so anyone in the market for these unicorns please see my listing in the classifieds here.

With CLX nearly 10 years old, have you had any technical problems with them?

I feel your pain BigGuy - I had to replace a bass panel (DOA on a factory refurbished pair, replaced under warranty), and then a few months later a power supply, so while you can service these yourself, it helps to have another set of hands, and does require a bit of time and care. Since then...

    System #503 (CLX Art)

Looks like you have at least 5" of toe-in there - have experimented with different amounts of toe-in?

    Need Help Deciding (ESL9 / 11A / 13A)

Being able to put subs in locations other than your panels is one of the main benefits of subs. I’m partial to JL Audio E110 that can be high-passed if desired. And the 10” woofers are fast enough to pair nicely with the panels.

    SACD Player Recomendations

Marantz does SACD right - currently spinning Dire Straits on my SA-10. Previously had a Cambridge CD player that was very musical but I missed being able to play SACDs. My first SACD player was a Sony 777.

    POWER!

I started with Pass XA30.8 and XP10 combo with my CLX - thought it was a little too soft and rounded; now using the Pass X250.8 and XP22 combo which is sounding better to my ears. Never leaves Class A at my typical volume (low 80s db).

    Hi there!

I'd bring them at least 4' forward of the wall and put some kind of absorption panels behind them to tame the back wave of sound.

    Back after 13 years

I also started with SL3, on long term loan from a friend, but as they were 25 years old had lost a significant amount of sparkle (but still had the electrostatic magic). So, smitten with the electrostatic bug, I went whole hog and got a pair of CLX last summer which I've been enjoying immensely...

Can I make this living room work?

Curtains on the glass and rugs on the floor would tame the room. Just don't plan on putting the speakers close to a wall.

New amp for my ML CLX Art speakers!

Curious what you were using prior and what about it pushed you to big power PS Audio? I’m running my CLX with Pass.

    System #545 (CLX)

Update on my system - DAC/streamer is now dCS Bartok, preamp Pass Labs XP-22, amp Pass Labs X250.8, interconnects and speaker cables now Audience frontRow, shunyata power cables. I’m thrilled with the sound.

Pass Labs XP-22 Preamp In The House

I started with an XP-10 Pass preamp and the XA 30.8 amp driving my CLX speakers. While I was pretty happy with the sound I felt the XP-10 was a bit “fat” sounding in the bass. Maybe a little too rounded. After exploring the idea of an upgrade to the XP-32, I was persuaded that for the same cost...

    Nice BF212 sub review

Yup - local shop is the way to go for all the German brands post-warranty. Porsche is actually one of the most reliable brands. I had one for a couple of years and it was an absolute blast to drive (too much so in some ways). The audio hobby is a lot safer...

CLX going the way of the dodo

Thought you already had a pair.

Looking at subwoofer brands other than ML

Yup - 2 subs tame room issues much better than one. I'd rather have a pair of subs that cost $2K each than one $4K sub.

Looking at subwoofer brands other than ML

I have a pair of JL Audio e110 subs - I think the woofer size makes for faster response than bigger models, and the consensus seems to be that a pair results in much smoother response than a single sub. They are plenty powerful for my 23x16x9 room as well. I don't feel like I'm losing anything...

Run main speakers full range with subwoofers or high pass mains?

It was 95hz for high pass setup or 60hz for running full range.

Run main speakers full range with subwoofers or high pass mains?

I previously had SL3 and also combined with JL e110s. I ran them high-passed at about 95hz (RCA our from preamp to e110 then RCA out from e110 to power amp. This was with Krell KAV-250p/250-a combination. I found that freeing up the SL3 woofers from the lower frequencies to the e110s really...
