New Vistas - Very Exciting !

Congratulations on the new Vista's. I bought a pair back in March and have not been disappointed. I have a Cinema (not i) center channel with mine and I think it is a very good combination. That still doesn't keep me from wanting to upgrade the Cinema to a Stage however. ;) Chuck

    Aerius i and Conrad-Johnson

Luca, Welcome! Back in 1997 Stereophile ran a review of the Aerius i and in the review Sam Tellig talks about using the MV55. http://www.us.martinlogan.com/reviews/aerius_i_stereophile.html To summarize, he was not pleased with the combination of Aerius i with the MV55, though he said the...

    Aeruis & Marantz 125w Monoblocks

I have a pair of Rotel RMB-100 (100 watt) mono blocks that I used with my Aerius i's and they were very nice. I now use them with a pair of Vistas' and they still sound nice. Without having heard either your receiver or the Marantz amps, I would bet that the Marantz would do a much better job...

    New Vista's and Happy

Since this thread has bounced back up to the top again, I thoguht I would take a moment to update it a little. Earlier on I mentioned that there was a rattling sound coming from one of the speakers. A few e-mail exchanges with Jim Power had me taking the woofer cone out of the offending...

Heard Summits for the first time

Yes and no. One in the bedroom is using the analog outs. One in the living room going digital into a Sharp 1bit CD/Minidisc system feeding Vandersteen 1C's. Haven't put one on the main Vista system yet. I still play a number of SACD's on that system and the SB can't help me with that. Chuck

    Vantages and a sub-woofer?

If you are really interested in comparing the performance of some of the subwoofers out there, these are two good sites that do objective testing of a bunch of different subwoofers. While measurements may not correlate to how they sound in your room, they do provide some insight into the design...

    Clarity (new) vs. Aerius (used)

    Porting the Aerius ?

Joey, I understand and agree with most of your points, but what bothers me is the dogmatic assertion that sealed is always tighter and faster. Although I don't think using the same woofer ported, then sealed is a valid comaprison. I believe that woofers are designed (or they should be) to work...

    Porting the Aerius ?

Ralflar, Wanted to first echo that I think tying to turn the Aerius woofer into a ported system is a bad idea. My guess is that the woofer driver itself was designed to operate optimally in a sealed environment and if you remove the backpressure supplied by the cabinet, who knows what that...

    Clarity (new) vs. Aerius (used)

I see that you list Ohio as your home. If you are in the Cleveland, or Northeast Ohio area, I have a pair of Aerius i's that I just replaced with Vista's and will be selling them. If you are near by you could bring your amp, hook it up and see what they sound like. That would be the best way to...

    New Vista's and Happy

Amey01, I do understand what you are saying, but my first impressions of the Vista bass is that it is tighter, and more focused. I guess that does lead to an overall "leaner" sound of the speaker. At the same time, I hear more detail in the bass notes with the Vista than I did with my Aerius'...

    New Vista's and Happy

I need to post an addendum to my earlier post. I am still happy with how the Vista's sound overall, but last night I discovered a buzzing, static like noise coming from the woofer section of one of the speakers. :( The noise did not get louder as the volume increased, and it was really only...

    Stereo vs Dolby 2.0

The answer to your question depends on how many people you are watching the movies with. Certainly, 2.0 movies will sound great over the Vantages, and if you sit in the center, the experience will be quite nice. However, if you have people spread to either side of the center, the voices will...

    New Vista's and Happy

Mark, I am using a pair of Rotel RMB-100 monoblocks to drive them with. I don't think Rotel sold too many of those, but they are 100 w/channel cubes that sit right behind each of the speakers. They seem to work really well on the Logan's. The system with the Aerius' is posted as #111. I have...

    New Vista's and Happy

I just wanted to put down a few impressions of the Vista. I picked up a pair over the weekend to replace my Aerius i's. I did some considerable waffling and soul searching before actually getting these. The first issue was my concern that they really didn't represent much of an improvement over...

Panel/Woofer integration issues on Vantages and other "small panel" Logans

I don't notice shifting images with my Aerius i's. You didn't mention how far you sit away from the speakers. I could imagine that if you sat too close, there would not be enough distance for the output of the woofer and the panel to merge together. Or like Joey said, there may be somthing...

What does your significant other think?

My wife was one of those "a speaker is a speaker" people when we were dating and she thought I was crazy to spend as much as I did on a used pair of Aerius i's. But now she goes to her sisters house, and she can't stand to listen to music there. :p What actually converted her to the ML's was...

What do you use for portable listening???

I use a Rio Karma with CD's riped as OGG Vorbis files and a Sony Hi-MD Minidisc recorder (really nice sound, and can also record .wav files) and a pair of Etymotic ER-6. I have a headrooom amp, but I don't use it when I am on planes. The improvement in sound isn't really noticable in that...

How Good is Your Sub ?

While I can't speak for SocialXray, I can tell you why I decided to go with my SVS PC-Ultra. My decision was based on perceived value. I felt that for the $$ I could not by better all round performance. The PC-Ultra provides unbelievable impact for movies, and is great sounding on all my music...

Help selecting surrounds and rears for my system.

I will also add a vote of recommendation for the Mirage Omnisats. I have a pair of them ceiling mouted that really work quite well. The newer OMD-5 models are a bit more expensive, but still within your price range, and they look and sound nice. The omnipolar diffusion pattern is similar enough...
