    Service Notice for Discontinued Products

Rich, that's a good point. You are free to give your money to whom ever you want. I know we keep running over the same ground, but Gayle Sanders sold the company to an investor, not a hobbyist. They want to maximize the value of their investment. You don't seem to like it, so won't buy ML...

New DAC what should I get??

What else have you compared it to, out of curiosity? Thanks

But for how many more years? I bet the ML brand will outlive the Sanders brand.

New Summit X Review in TAS - Better than any dynamic speaker under $40K

I did not compare the sweetspots. (If you are looking for a stat with a huge sweetspot, try the Soundlab. You can dance around the room all you want.) Virtually any hybrid model of ML (or any hybrid electrostat) tries to integrate a super-fast panel with a slow woofer. It's kind of like a...

New Summit X Review in TAS - Better than any dynamic speaker under $40K

I find the Maggies sound very lifelike and have better bass integration than the Logans. However, having listened to electrostats for so long, I can never get past this lack of resolution Maggies seem to have. If you like the sound of the kick-drum, get as big as SS amps as you can find. I...

Martin Logan Speakers On Hard Wood Floors

Rich, that is a very interesting idea. When you move the speakers, though, don't they leave a black mark on your wood floor?

New DAC what should I get??

The reason for the buzz around the Ayre DAC is that it compares more the c5 mp (but only if you have a laptop that is dedicated to music or if you have a great transport, otherwise c5 is better). The c5 is purchased by more reviewers than any other digital product. It takes double the price of...

    Service Notice for Discontinued Products

Amen! I wish the guy lives forever. But he looks like he is between 60 and 70. It also looks like he runs a garage operation. Life time warranty? Whose lifetime? You don't see a talented apprentice who knows how he thinks. Or thinks even better than he does. Same goes for Conrad...

New Summit X Review in TAS - Better than any dynamic speaker under $40K

Justin, I am not surprised. But I doubt it happens for the bigger, more mainstream magazines. Also, if you find a glowing review by just one guy in a less popular magazine and there are no other reviews to be found on the product you are looking for, it is probably not very convincing for...

Yes, on a great recording it is probably like sitting in one of the first few rows.

    Service Notice for Discontinued Products

Recent Bose Customer Service experience: I own their noise cancelling head phones (along with some killer Beyer T1's). The headphones broke, but the model was discontinued and replaced with a new model. I contacted Bose asking for a replacement part. They said they don't stock any old parts...

    Service Notice for Discontinued Products

Rich, these are good points. The company decided that it's too expensive to change up their production line to produce a handful of panels here and there, for a relatively few very old speakers (probably less than 1,000 still in operation). Sure, it will lose a few customers, but that's the...

    Service Notice for Discontinued Products

Another thought on this is how many of the brands out there will be around in 10, 15, 20 years? I wish guys like Conrad, Johnson, Roger Sanders, Dave Wilson, etc., the best health and many years of vigorous and happy life. But how many brands will be around 10, 15, or 20 years from now? The...

    Service Notice for Discontinued Products

I know we had a lot of these conversations a few months back. I can see both sides. But, I think Tim makes great points from a stand point of running a business. But a good question is: What should a life of a speaker be? CLS 1 is from 1985! How many are there still out there? What are...

New Summit X Review in TAS - Better than any dynamic speaker under $40K

Peter, I think it is a matter of preference. These things bother Valin, and I also found the woofer out of sync on my Spires and Vantages. Additionally, I have heard subs add a tremendous amount of musical information about the musical venue and make a huge contribution. But unfortunately, I...

New Summit X Review in TAS - Better than any dynamic speaker under $40K

Rich, Having followed his writing for a while, I am sure Valin would not like the Summit X - or at least not like it compared to other statement speakers he regularly reviews. That is probably why they had Dick Olsher write the review. That is also probably why we have not seen Valin write a...

New Summit X Review in TAS - Better than any dynamic speaker under $40K

Unfortunately, TAS uses different reviewers to review speakers at different price points. In an ideal world, Valin and Olsher would provide opinions on both the 'X' and the CLX, just like the car magazines do. But... The Summit X goes deeper in the bass, but the bass is fuller and thicker...

New Summit X Review in TAS - Better than any dynamic speaker under $40K

Robert, how would that be different than buying a newer model of MLs? ML has improved the panel speed and detail, and also made the crossovers more seamless. Not everyone likes the results, however, as the Prodigy and CLS owners seem more fervent than the Summit owners.

New Summit X Review in TAS - Better than any dynamic speaker under $40K

Justin, The reviewer is Dick Olsher. I think he has owned and/ or reviewed every planar and stat speaker ever made - Quad, Soundlab, etc. Prior to the Omegas, the Finals were his references. Seems to me, he just likes to try different speakers. I understand where he is coming from. I have...
