    Crossover settings-Bass Management

I agree with Roberto. Although i initially did not believe in the THX settings, i am believer in it now. My room is small and i have Vantage front towers...along with Stage. My receiver is Denon AVR 4306. IMHO, even with the Vantages self-amplified woofer, it is no where nearly as effective...

See: http://www.edmunds.com/il/pontiac/g8/index.html. Yes, i know that it's a domestic car, but it also means that you can get a good deal on...

    Crucial decision...need help!

Hey all, I really need your advice on what could be a crucial decision. I've suspected for some time now that my wife has been cheating on me. The usual signs... phone rings but if I answer, the caller hangs up. My wife has been going out with the girls a lot recently although when I ask...

    My GF's soon-to-be car....

Things have change since i went to school...shoot, i had a 3-cylinder 1.0L Chevy Sprint (granddaddy to Geo Metro) thru college and med school. THEN, finally, in residency, i upgraded to a Honda CRV. Wow, i sure wish that i had what you guys are having!:rocker:

New Martin Logan owner... what to buy?

In theory, NO. The Auto-EQ program (Audyssey on Denons) should be able to compensate for the additional power of a few speakers and even it out. However, for me, i would just get a 5-channel amp (e.g. Sunfire) to power the whole system.

    Vantage + Marantz SR8001 receiver...good idea?

Add a 2-channel or 3-channel or even a 5-channel amp. For the money, i would just get a 5-channel amp and boost your whole system.

New Martin Logan owner... what to buy?

Well, IF you were to go this route, then i would go with the Purity because the self-amplified Purity would be a lot easier on your Denon than the non-amplified Source.

New Martin Logan owner... what to buy?

Well, in my opinion, the surround speakers are not all that important for HT. It maybe more important if you were planning to play SACD. For HT, you just need something that is close enough to your front 3 main speakers. This is where you can save a lot of money. For me, I went with ML...

    Joke of the Day

This is a strictly mathematical viewpoint...it goes like this: What Makes 100%? What does it mean to give MORE than 100%? Ever wonder about those people who say they are giving more than 100%? We have all been to those meetings where someone wants you to give over 100%. How about achieving...

    Joke of the Day

Three contractors are bidding to fix the White House fence. One from New Jersey, another from Tennessee and the third, Florida. They go with a White House official to examine the fence. The Florida contractor takes out a tape measure and does some measuring, then works some figures with a...

New Martin Logan owner... what to buy?

You're are probably right...but then again, how many on this forum have actually listened to a well setup system with a quality receiver?? I also wonder how many on here have beautiful separates in their system yet has it poorly calibrated or poor aesthetics due to wires and such?? Yes, there...

New Martin Logan owner... what to buy?

The reason why some (or a few) people go the AVR route is because it's economical while providing good sound. With most AVRs nowadays, you can get HDMI, bunch of surround sound processings, and auto-EQ. For me, HDMI and auto-EQ are what i needed most. I am not a professional audio person. I...

New Martin Logan owner... what to buy?

I agree with Roberto. For me, i have found that my Denon 4306 (also 130W x 7) does a good job powering my Vantage, Stage, and Vignette speakers (5.1 HT). After about 3 hours of movies, the Denon gets warm to slightly hot, but never went into any safe mode. I do have a fan blowing on the...

    Vignettes, opinions ?

Brad, i personally would go with a servo-controlled sub. Thus, i would prefer the Grotto over the Dynamo.

    Vignettes, opinions ?

I would save up money for the higher priced MLs. I think that the Vignettes are good as surround speakers. I think that Source or Purity would be a lot better as your main front towers. As for your center, i would get the Motif. Remember, since you're going for HT, the center channel is the...

    Vista vs Source

I have to disagree a tiny bit here. The original poster is using these speakers for HT. So, the center channel and the two front channels should be ESLs. However, the surround channels can be ATF because surrounds generally don't need to totally match the fronts in HT applications and usually...

    Your Reference pieces?

I am a neophyte compared to you guys, but i like Sarah McLachlan's Afterglow. IMO, it's a rich Cd with plenty of subtle instruments and a beautiful voice. It has some bass, some highs, some in between. For softer listening, i prefer Sarah Brightman's Time to Say Goodbye...the live recording...
