What do you NOT like about the sound of your MLs?

This thin and weak sounding mid you speak of? I also thought my speakers were a little too forward but at the low mid range giving the effect of the other ranges being overshadowed. My fix was to use the Behringer PEQ module and reduce the 447 Hz at 1/3 octave by 3.5 dB. Note that this is right...

    Thoughts on new versus used

Buying used is fine if you know and trust the seller and can guarantee it gets to your home in one piece. With new, that is assured. Buy used, and you may end up with something like this: Caveat Emptor!

The "Post Your Favourite Lyric(s) Thread"

Dr. Bernice Baby don't you drive around with Dr. Bernice She is not a lady doctor at all She's got hands like a man With hair on the back She'll crush you with her embrace Though the wind may whisper and moan sometimes We all need a kind place to live Though the wind may whisper and howl at...

    Drop off in high frequency

Using the Auto-Equalize function on my Behringer equalizer boosted the 8k to 16kHz range, with the curve apex at 12.5kHz. Since putting these diffusers in: http://www.martinloganowners.com/~tdacquis/forum/showthread.php?t=8793 I re-did the A-Eq which then boosted that same band section a little...

    Beakman-Tar-jay' Diffusers An Unexpected Success!

The lamps are pretty much by themselves as it is. My absorption panels, as seen in the photo, are now up against and parallel to the right hand wall (the other seven footer would be to the far right if the picture were of the whole room), one dead center against the front wall under the TV. Not...

    Beakman-Tar-jay' Diffusers An Unexpected Success!

One test mule lamp shade received two sloppy coats of Minwax water-based polycrylic via spray can. Once the second coat was dry I put it into service with an untreated lampshade at the opposite speaker. I used a new CD I hadn't heard yet for the audition, Spanish Harlem Orchestra's "United We...

    El-Cheapo Strikes Again!

Three inexpensive tweaks, one still under development: 1) Get thee to Lowe's, where you can find cutting boards of 17" x 15" x 2". They are about $45 each, much cheaper than audiophile grade whatever wood blocks. I use these under my speakers mainly for moving them around the room over the...

Most Influential Artists of Modern Music

Modern Music? Nothing creates opportunity like a vacuum, so if this guy didn't exist someone else would bear his mantle but where would modern music be (or played on) without Les Paul?

Be Honest - Do You Mainly Listen To Your Logans When Drinking?

Alcohol will usually exacerbates any hearing anomalies I have, tinnitus, narrowing of range, background white noise, etc. Same with over the counter meds like Alieve. I still occasionally have a drink or two in the evening but not for any sound enhancement properties. Now the very rare pipefull...

    My first Blu-Ray experience

What is the pixel count on the screen. That will be your max / best resolution no matter what signal goes into the set. For 1080i sets, your best bet may be to put all settings for cable, BL-dvd,tv, etc to 720p and forgo any signal processing the TV has to do for anything higher.

    Wave absorption - Focal point

I think I get what you're saying. My choice, as I have done when experimenting, is to have the sound panel directly behind the speaker. The sound panel has to be free standing and tall, as mine, 2' x 7'. This way, you are still able to position the speaker virtually anywhere with the sound panel...

    Any Kindle owners here?

I've been using ebook readers for years now, on my phone, pda's and slates. Mobibook , Palm eReader, and always the disaster, Microsoft eBook reader. The best is the Palm, with a very effective DRM. It is tied to the name and number of the credit card used to purchase the materials, whether the...

Victim of box speakers is looking for electrostat salvation (CLS, VANTAGE, ODYSSEY)

That room looks like a perfect match for Linkwitz Pluto's, Omnistats, or any other type of small, omni / multi-directional speaker. When I was a kid, my room was about 16' x 20' of second floor, gambrel roofline (ceiling), plaster walls. I would fool around with speaker placement, reflecting...

    Considering McIntosh Amps -Opinions?

Send your units down and I'll do so. I was hoping to avoid the 5 figure sums involved to be able to make a well conducted comparison. I was hoping that maybe someone has had McIntosh amps and at one time maybe did have bridged amps and mono's, so they could relate to me their experience from...
