    CLX & Wall prep

If my CLS setup is any indication of what you may expect from your CLX, here's what I'm experiencing: My speakers sound better with no absorption on the front wall nor heavy diffusion. What I do have is absorption on the side wall side of the side/front corner junction. the front wall has medium...

    Sources/Preface/Encore Discontinued?

Outlaw audio is having a sale on their 2100 monoblocks. They are a good starter amp and a workhorse, so if you decide to further upgrade they can be moved down the chain in the system.

    room correction w/Behringer 2496 EQ

Another thing that whacks-out the DEQ2496 is if you reverse polarity on the 2496 and also have the polarity reversed on one sub's amp panel switch and another sub normal. No no no! Keep your multiple subs polarity "normal" and do all the tricks on the EQ.

    room correction w/Behringer 2496 EQ

One other thing I recalled after writing yesterday's response was the then coincidence of the 2496 auto eq settling down and behaving in a more expected fashion after I had reversed the polarity between panel and woofer. From this I might extrapolate that some auto correction components /...

    room correction w/Behringer 2496 EQ

It's in the manual. But you still can use the function by canceling whatever band or bands you choose. You need the behringer mike or have to be a math wiz to do the sensitivity setting conversion for other mikes (read dbx). the best way to learn the 2496 is to play around with it endlessly...

    Crazy idea? (subwoofer placement)

Great idea. I'd do it if I had the same situation. The farther away a sub is from the listener, the better the full sound wave can be heard. That's why you can hear a car's sub playing from a distance: you're hearing the full waveform, crest and trough, while the jerk in the car can only hear...

    Buying used hi-end audio gear

Packing, packing, packing! if need be, send the seller a diagram or at least tell them in detail how to pack it. Trust me. :(

    First Logan experience

I went to a Sound Advice store here in florida on a foray to get "a good stereo" setup, finally. I went there because I knew they sold Polks and figured that was a reputable name, my brother had a pair from years ago and I was impressed. The had a decent listening room from what I thought and in...

Small room and I want to try SL3 or CLS IIz

I've noticed the difference between the CLS and the Vantage is a difference in rear wave propagation. Smaller panel = Smaller radius/arc = smaller backwave practically canceling itself in comparison to the larger panel. The SL3 may be a better choice for a small room, but the proof is in the...

    iPad is here!

I'm no fan of hype and I'm not an Apple-ista by default of having too many PC's but I think this may be the answer for a traveller such as myself. The big test will be if I can sync apps through my PC (roaming charges for data overseas is prohibitive) and if it will render the Palm Ereader for...

    Uh-Oh! I Hear Less!

I did a major vacuuming and checked my different source levels but the major indicator, my two different sound level meters, tell me to lay off the sauce and ease up on the Alieve :o. Nothing to see here, move along . . .

    How do you decide?

Speakers I have to hear. The not too often times I have wanted a pair of speakers I've walked into a store with a general idea of what I wanted, based on advertising and consensus, only to walk out with something else and always more expensive. Plus I have to be able to play with the head...

    Uh-Oh! I Hear Less!

Would it be an amp or Speakers if one noticed an unnoticed (till it became evident) decrease in sound output across the board, both channels? Preamp? I might start switching amps tonight to find out. Last nights listening session, fueled by wine and exotic tobaccos, ended with me wondering what...
