new to this forum, new ml owner; just bought montage

Have you tried experimenting with the placement? With 2 x 6.5" woofers its only good down to about 50hz or so....placement is going to critical...if you're looking for a good sub at a decent price, Parts Express sells the Titanic series of subs, that are just as good as many of the expensive...

Taming high freq brightness on SL3

"anything with a lot of high's though has become really bad, almost painful" The key word is "ANYTHING"....regardless of genre,...? mastering,...? source?,... I'm surprised no one has mentioned rolling the drivers / phase-inverters (12AT7's if memory serves me) in the Mac amp...Mac gear is...

    Audio Output transformer upgrade?

Has anyone entertained the thought of upgrading the audio output trannies for their ML's? As great and effect these can have on the overall sound, and with as many high-end options there are (James, Lundahl, JRD, Tamura) I would be surprised if no one has... Simply as a matter of discussion...

    longevity and care questions

<<<Showering the panels. Yep, works, and works very well - I know first hand. But this should only be done as a last ditch effort to save the panels. I did this to my Sequels (bought used), which I also use as Surround in MCH & movies, and it made a significant difference.>>> Ok, so whats the...

Have my CLS I electronics modules been tweaked?

I've got the schematics... ....thats how I figured they may have been tweaked. But....manufacturers change aspects many times during the life cycle of a design...the schematic will only show a snapshot of the design at a certian time and may not reflect manufacturer changes afterwards...its a...

Have my CLS I electronics modules been tweaked?

I tried putting this in the Tweaks area but its actually not a tweak...I'm just trying to find out if it is or not....(huh?) I bought these used a few days ago so I am discovering things as I inspect them very closely.. I attached a pic for reference. Looks like the panel voltage has been...

    longevity and care questions

HSV, Thanks for the line by line rundown! Thats exactly what I wanted to know about these wonderful speakers. I also owned a pair of SL-3's, but I did not enjoy them half as much as I am the CLS's! Your feedback has given me faith enough to sit back and just enjoy the music without "over...

    longevity and care questions

After reading much about these wonderful speakers I've actually grown disheartened about owning them (CLS I's purchased used)! Accroding to what I've read on this site,....ML's seem plagued with issues related to longevity,... from diaphram dust buildup,... to the "coating" on the diaphram...

More Volts = More / better sound?

Has anyone considered the adverse effects that this will have on the longevity of the panels (raising the voltage)? Will doing this effectively "wear out" the diaphram prematurely? Is the subjective increase in sound quality worth possibly cutting in half the life expectancy of the design?

    Cls Panel Removal

Jeff, Thanks for the reply. If you can shoot those instructions over I'd be grateful. Also, you wouldn't happen to have a copy of the schematic for the electronics module would you? The serial number of the box(es) I have is: 1178 & 1179. The panels are CS1EG717 (July 1993).

    Cls Panel Removal

I just got a nice used pair of CLS I's, but I'd like to refinish the frames...my question is: How the hell do I get the stator assembly away from the frame? I assume it either slides in/out from the top,...or is wedged in/out from the rear...? Thanks

    SL3's & ICE amps?

Thanks Guys, Thats a sigh of relief... :p Pete about the switching noise: According to PS Audio, they've overcome this issue: "PS Audio GCA series amplifiers solve this classic noise problem quite well and are quiet enough to place even the most sensitive of equipment near the amplifier...

Instructions on how to replace SL3 rails

Thanks guys... I called ML and ordered the new pair of oak rails and they did require tapping from the top to remove them...The Oak rails really bring out these babies! That being said, I now have a pair of black SL-3 rails for sale.... :D

    SL3's & ICE amps?

I have a pair of ML SL-3's that I plan on driving with a PS Audio GCC-500 and a McCormack Power Drive DNA-2. I am going to have a Bi-amp config (Using the GCC-500 pre-out to the DNA-2) with the the GCC-500 driving the bass units, and the DNA-2 driving the Stat sections. I read somewhere else...
