    Pro amps

I'd stay away from AVRs I used to use a Yammy 1600 with my Aeon-i. Bought the Yammy because it sounded better than a Denon 3805 in the shop. No matter, the Yammy did not do the Logans justice. It was no good even when used as a pre-amp. In my experience a pre-amp's impact on sound quality is...

Does ML only accept spade connector?

Typical bananas will fit. Recently I bought a pair of speaker cables with atypical locking bananas which will not go in. Those locking bananas have been spread out previously, I think. Surely they will go in if I use a bit of spit and tong; to compress them.

    Yamaha vs Sony DVD Players??

Eek! After that experience I would stay away from Denons, too. Although I must say that my 2910 has been completely issue free in terms of reliability or lip sync. Also, while image and sound quality are not great, they are many times better than what my $140 LG produces. (Of course, $149 today...

    Yamaha vs Sony DVD Players??

Thai, I do not know anything in your target price range except a LG Electronics upscaling 1080i player I bought over about 15 months ago. I wished I hadn't. Shudder. Its video quality is so much worse than that of my Denon 2910 which is not so great itself. I'm selling it (the 2910) in your...

    AV receiver for Vantage

Hi Richard, Like Caerus I initially used a Yammy HT receiver (1600) to drive my Logans. In my experience the pre-amp makes a much bigger difference than the power amp. My own observations may not apply to your Marantz. When I replaced the power amp part of my Yammy with a pair of mono blocks...

Opinions on Beemers and similar (cars)?

Of course it is my opinion! That is the nature of any forum post. That's fine. Diversity of opinion is good. Everyone who reads forum posts should understand that such content is always subjective. Disclaimers should not be needed all the time. I already agreed that I voiced my opinion. I...

Opinions on Beemers and similar (cars)?

The statement re function before all else does not apply to BMWs, unfortunately. BMWs are about perception before anything else. The majority of BMW owners in the US cares so much more about the self image they want to project than the cars' abilities. BMW knows this, too. In the eighties their...

Opinions on Beemers and similar (cars)?

While I like the new 3 series, especially the 335i Coupe, I share the good oinky doctor's sentiment re. the E46 series, especially the 330i coupes and cabrios, and of course the M3. Beautiful. If my next car turns out to be a BMW, it is probably going to be a 2005/2006 E46 M3, or the new 135i...

That conjures up a mental image of imaginary offspring of a giant winged dinosaur and one of those fast smart beasties from Jurrasic Park 1 ;).

    Vantage questions

Alright, I forgot the "Black Pearl". Oh wait, PS Audio already claimed the name for their black PPP ;). Yes, the PF60 is a nice unit with great functionality. It also has one of the highest Joule ratings. There are lots and lots of MOVs in this unit. I posted photos of it in another thread...

    Vantage questions

Regarding aftermarket power cords I use after market cables, but not because I expect them to improve sound quality. The woofer amps in Vantages really don't draw that much power. My guestimate is 3 Ampere at 120V for those very short periods that peak power is required (200W RMS * 1.414...

    Vantage questions

PF60s used to sell for $230 or less. I don't recall precisely how much mine were; I think one was around 200 and the other approx 220. For $300 you can buy a PF60 and a long, fancy power cord. The one issue I have with the PF60 is the long hard-wired power cord, though. I wished it had standard...

Beer It's not just for breakfast

As far as Irish stout is concerned I'll take Beamish Black over Guinness or Murphy's any time. My favorite Irish ale is Beamish Red.

    Snake oil

My first thought: that's a prank! Then I saw that the illustrious Marja & Henk of 6moons gave the "Intelligent Box" a favorable review. Which proves to me once again that there are lies, damn lies, and audio reviews. Here is what must be the modern heir of the original Snake Oil. Check out...

Beer It's not just for breakfast

Warsteiner Pilsener, although it tastes much better in Germany. For English ales, John Smith's Extra Smooth. Around Houston, various Shiner and Saint Arnold.

In need of a Comfort Upgrade! Twich's thread... PART 2!

That means that your chair is not even properly broken in yet. I heard that just like Summits they need about 500 hours until they give your midrange and lower extremities that magical support. :D
