    Hi everyone

    > Yamaha Rv-1105-- to be upgraded soon I can see that you have been infected already :). The disease is called Joeyitis. (Hey Joey, this time I remembered to delete the other "t".)

What will the new CLX do that the Summit does not?

The CLX will need one or two subwoofers. The Summit already has them built in. The large panel on CLS is not a problem at all. I heard Radu's CLS, and believe me they do disappear. They are also more coherent over the complete frequency range than my Vantages. The Summit crossover between...

    Subwoofer management

Not really or sort of, depending on how you look at it. I'm using the low pass filter in the Depth-i and inline high pass filters by ACI. It appeals to my philosophy of keeping is simple.

    Balanced or Unbalanced from CD

Balanced connections can be beneficial between pre-amp and amp because that is the connection with the lowest signal level and therefore most susceptible to noise. However, if the source must be far away from the pre-amp then a case for a balanced connection between source and pre-amp can be...

    Balanced or Unbalanced from CD

Cost. XLR-in looks good on the spec sheet.

HD-DVD a thing of the past?

Difference between HD and upscaled SD content If the HD transfer was done well, and if the screen is of sufficient quality and resolution (1080p), HD will win over upscaled SD. The larger the screen the more evident is the advantage of HD content. A really good upscaler and deinterlacer can do...

    LCD vs Plasma

Replace your CRT with a good LCD and you won't need that stronger pair of glasses just yet. Don't know about plasmas. Do they make affordable 1080p plasmas yet?

who here owns something other than ML speakers?

Hans Deutsch Light Style 2. I'm sure most of you have never heard of them. They work really well with the Trends Audio TA 10.1 amp.

    Depth i or Descent i w/ Vantage

IMO a single or dual Depth-i is best for music with the non-hybrid MLs (CLS and eventually the CLX). I think that a single Descent-i will sound just as well with hybrid MLs than a single Depth-i, but not as good as a pair.

    Preamps/DAC?

Ask sleepysurf. I seem to recall that he tried his DAC-1 as pre-amp for a while. However, considering that you will have to run much longer than usual interconnects from the pre to the Purities, and that the latters' input impedance is quite low at 14kOhm, you'll need a pre-amp with a beefy...

Lessons learned from this hobby of ours...

    0) Music has become a lot more important to me. 1) My musical tastes have changed somewhat because certain genres and types of music are recorded with superior quality, or can, by their nature, sound more life-like. 2) Upgrades happen. 3) Psycho-acoustics exist. The problem with ears is that...

    Vantage Vertical Position Placement?

Poor Vantages I believe any attempt to deploy Vantages in your room can only lead to frustration. There just isn't enough room. Vantages are not much smaller than SL3s and need a lot of air around them. If you want ESLs I'd recommend to look for something much smaller which is not hybrid, for...

    New to ML

Welcome. Now that I left Houston I realize that quite a few club members live there. It was a well set up pair of Maggie 1.6s which got me into this mess. Loved the robust sound when the volume was turned up but was concerned that my room was to small for them. So when a pair of Aeon-is was on...

    Arrivederci, Logans!

Ciao Andrea. Thanks for the welcome. Jim Powers pointed me at Audio Natali as the source for 50Hz power boards. He said they are great to work with and that English is not a problem. I just have to give them a call. Where did you buy your room treatments? I found sources in Germany and the UK...

    Arrivederci, Logans!

Hi Jonathan, Thanks. Yes, I'm afraid so. I have no excuses. Taming this room will be a challenge, I knew it when I first stepped into it. Echoes, echoes, echoes. Eek. That's got to be a big boat. So far I have covered the floor w/ thick rugs, and set up the stuff I brought with me from Houston...

    Arrivederci, Logans!

Almost Its been so long it feels strange to post here again. Where to begin? This is only the second week that I have DSL at home. Some things do take a while here. I found a nice apartment in a charming old town not far from Milano. All my stuff made it over intact, including the audio gear...

    Portable GPS recommendations...

Go Garmin as far as standalone units are concerned. Garmin's software is much faster at searching for POIs or entering addresses than any of the competitors I tried such as TomToms and Magellans. Garmin's software for Palm, OTOH, may have issues. Check out related posts in the Garmin forum at...
