Wondering what everyone thinks of the SL3

And just as important, how much would you pay for a black pair, about 9 years old? I currently have the biwire version of the aerius (not aerius i though) and am considering trying a pair of SL3's out. thanks!

    ReQuest - panel problem - FIXED! :-)

Jacek, I had similar problems and decided to do the "wash" routine. While disasembling the panels, I noticed the connection to the stators coming loose...which I resoldered. To be honest, I don't know if it was the washing or the resoldering.....but my speakers sound much better. Although I...

Custom Exotic HardWood Trim for Ascents

Craig, definitly give this a go. I did the same with my Aerius...and the results were fantastic. I only used a birdseye maple, but it turned out great and was simply to do.....so simple, we should offer this as a service to some of our fellow martin-loganers! Paul.

    Question for Aerius owners.....

I have a pair of the original Aerius, (biwire version) and from time to time I come across people on audiogon selling theirs, but stating the "upgraded the woofers" Is there some "upgrade" that I don't know about for these. Seems like a woofer swap-out would require modifications to the...

    Favorite Room Treatments

Kach22i - Good idea checking on the member systems, thanks. DTB300 - I've constructed only the larger (about 16") tube traps and one 4 foot by 8 foot fiberglass panel at the back of the room. The rear panel really helped draw the image forward, and back into focus. As far as the "tube traps"...

    Favorite Room Treatments

Was wondering if we could hear some opinions on favorite room treatments, foam, tube traps, carpet, ceiling and or wall treatments? Given the directional nature of Logan's I'm really interested in hearing what everyone feels is the most important treatment area (corner, side walls, etc.) Just...

    Assistance with Balanced Lines

I'm somewhat embarassed to post this, but I'm hoping someone here can help me understand how to hookup a Jeff Rowland Coherence One preamp into my system! I just bought this unit off Audiogon, and happened to look at a picture of the rear and it has what looks like dual rca's for each...

    Suggestions for optimal listening height?

Does anyone have any suggestions for the optimal listening height of Aerius speakers? looks like a new couch will be making it's way into my listening room, and it appears to sit a little lower than the chair I'm currently using. Just wondering???

    amp recommendation for Martin Logan

I'm running a pair of 7b mono's and love them.....but that's just my opinion. Some people like dark chocolate, others like milk chocolate.....doesn't necessarily make one better than the other. Since this is such a subjective hobby, read the opinions on this site and buy with confidence. Both...

Improvement for bass speed of the Aerius I

Seriously consider the isolation/decoupling examples offered. Cleaning up resonances does wonders for "tightening" up bass. To take it one step further, I lined the interior of my aerius with dynamat....that dramatically helped control cabinet vibrations yet did not change the interior volume...

    Aerius Power Problem

Contact Jim Power at Martin Logan. He's always been very helpful, and you'll want to call him anyways to discuss purchasing a replacement panel....if he can't help you through fixing your current one. I've heard of so many odd fixes that it's worth the call. Just use the e-mail link off their...

Has anyone cleaned their panels? How did you do it?

I purchased my aerius speakers used.....and man, they were filthy. I followed the "in the shower" descriptions, letting warm water run down the panels, the followed with pouring about two gallons of distilled water on them (reduces any mineral deposits) and let them dry for a day. I hooked...

    Changing rail color?

I built my own rails for my Aeirus out of solid maple, so if by chance you're in So. Cal, you can have mine..assuming they fit your speakers. As far as obtaining that piano black finish, I wouldn't be too afraid, and, if you prime the wood appropriately and follow with a black paint from...

Difference Between Granite and Concrete Bases

Sometimes I think we take this hobby too seriously. If nobody is going to see it, I'm sure that concrete vibration absorber from Home Depot would be fine.....and would free up money for some other audio purchase, properly spent.

    Monoblocks vs. 2(+) channel?

Bryston 7b monos In my previous listening room, I had a set of Bryston 7b monos, running my aerius, and they were in a small cabinet. The way I worked around this was to install a 5 inch cooling fan at the rear of the cabinet.....it circulated plenty of air, probably more than even sitting...

    Preamp for Bryston 7b

Just wondering if anyone has any preamp preferences to mate with a set up Bryston 7b monos. I'm looking in the 1,500 to 2,100 range. Specifically, I'm considering used Krell, Levinson, and Pass products and would prefer a preamp with as deep a staging as possible, as I'm in a relatively small...

    spikes

Yes, I'd say the bass tightened up quite a bit. It a trade off though. Being a amature speaker designer, I'm waaaayyyy too aware of how cabinet vibrations can muddy the sound. It just so happens my floors produce more vibrations than the cabinet, thus I elected to decouple. The highs do...

    spikes

I don't know if anyone has experimented with this setup, but, due to my bouncy floors, I've recently decoupled my speakers using a bicycle inner tube. Basically, it's a wooden box with a 12 in bicycle tire (barely inflated) on the inside.....with a top piece that "floats" on top. See pic...
  19. P

    spikes

The idea behind using the spikes is that the vibrations will terminate at the point, thus not transmit to the floor. Some people don't like to use spikes on wood floors for fear of ruining their floors or something, if that's an issue, just place something underneath the spike point. Some...

    spikes

I think spikes are essential, and used them on my wood floors. I think one should do anything they can to tame floor resonances....especially with wood floors. Currently I'm using spikes, a board, and a 12 inch bicycle tube. It may be overkill, but the room I'm in is a room addition with...
