Three Best Audiophile Moves I Ever Made

Yes I chose the MLs because of their transparency after my first trial run with electrostatics using a pair of Quad 2905s. They were like barn doors and the MLs certainly suit the room far better aesthetically, although I also considered these strange full-range tube active electrostatics...

Three Best Audiophile Moves I Ever Made

My best audiophile move was taken 18 years ago when I bought my first pair of Avantgarde speakers. Second was probably buying my first CD player decades ago, and third was getting started with streaming and ripping my CDs. The Avantgarde move has been developed from Uno, to Duo to latest Duo...

New Member - Exploring ML Possibilities

When you say "I am looking for a speaker that can fit (not perfectly) my layout - without having to be "four feet from the back wall etc.... Something that is pretty forgiving" do you mean you want your speakers to be less than 4 feet from the back wall or more than 4 feet? ML electrostatics...

Do I Really Need a Sub?

Au contraire! If you spend that much on a speaker, you should hope it was designed to reproduce bass notes without a subwoofer. I've never needed one as I've chosen my speakers carefully with regard to their ability to produce the full range of audible frequencies. Often subs are "literally" a...

Do I Really Need a Sub?

Have you applied the PBK software to see your response curve on screen? This should answer the question immediately. If the 15A's room-corrected curve at your listening position is pretty much flat in the lower frequencies, adding a sub will only exaggerate bass to an artificial level. My...

    ESL15A Break in

Look at the design of these speakers. The panel emits as much of its sound energy backwards as it does forward. Ditto the subs as one faces forward and the other backwards. Unless there's something behind the speakers so some of the back-firing energy can be made use of, the speaker won't...

    ESL15A Break in

There are limits though. I couldn't find a suitable placement in my large room unless I moved them towards the perimeter. I wanted my speakers mid-room and Martin Logans won't be happy there however much you adjust tilt, toe-in, distance between, etc. They need a wall or other reflective...

    New Impression 11A's

Sounds like a great amp but more costly than the speakers! I put most of my money in the speakers and perhaps 25-50% of that into amplification. My room has problems because of its large size but more importantly its odd shape. The speakers are placed in the middle of an almost...

See my PM. Happy to send to others considering this great amp.

    New Impression 11A's

Good to hear from someone else who has used the ML 8505 integrated amp. I had one on loan for a couple of weeks and I rather liked its sound but there were features I didn't like. My NAD M32 offered very similar sound and a streamer module, so I stuck with the M32. I don't think I had the...

    New Impression 11A's

Which integrated with DAC and streamer do you have? I have NAD M32 with M33 as my planned upgrade route. I used the M32 successfully with my ML 13As, but I had a couple of power amps that were marginally better in my view. These were the GamuT D200 Mk III and the Sanders Magtech. My room...

    New Impression 11A's

With respect, none of the items you quote is in fact "receivers". They are simply integrated amplifiers. My point to an earlier poster who mentioned "receivers" that this is a long-extent breed of devices is true. A "receiver" is a "tuner amplifier" ie an amplifier with built-in tuner...

    Amp Recommendations for ESL 15

Have you considered Sanders Magtech? By all accounts it's designed specifically for electrostatics (happy with very low impedance) and is modestly priced.

    Power Cords for M/L 13a B212 Make a difference ?

The cable looks OK although how well it's made and whether it is screened is unknown. I bought a few Chinese IEC plugs looking like those a while back, but while fitting the first to Belden's screened 19364 cable I realised they were badly constructed compared with the well-known brand they...

    Power Cords for M/L 13a B212 Make a difference ?

No, it's more like the Honda Civic guy chromium plating the underside of his car. It doesn't go faster and it doesn't even look better either!

    Power Cords for M/L 13a B212 Make a difference ?

It seems that US audiophiles are far more vocal about the grottiness of their low-voltage power supplies that you (Aus) or us (UK), so I think the basic answer is Yes. I believe that 230-240 volt supplies are more suitable than half that voltage - the latter requiring twice the current. I have...

    New Impression 11A's

Why are we even discussing "receivers" or "tuner-amplifiers" as they are known as this side of the Pond? They have long since been an extinct breed. If you mean integrated amplifiers, there are now many that meet the "doubling" requirement you believe is necessary with ML speakers.. There...

Tilting forward the Renaissance ESL 15A

That's what I was suggesting a couple of posts back, although there's no need for the square - just use a flashlight held at ear level to reflect its light. Adjust tilt for reflection half way up (or slightly below) the centre of the panel. Fine adjust if necessary from there. Peter
