    Martin Logan vs Final Sound?

Very good point...though also important to note is that he got into audio retail (as a side job) BECAUSE of how he felt about the finals... (and has only started doing it over the past couple of months) So, he's an enthusiast first, and retailer second....at least that's my impression based on...

    Martin Logan vs Final Sound?

I think the sweetspot on any of them will be very similar...depending on setup. And I've found that they have a big advantage in this category over my old quests. But again, that could be the setup. I find mine to be quite wide now...but with the limitation that if you stand up reasonably...

lifespan of ML panels.. esp clarity!

Yeah, play them to your heart's content. As long as you treat them well (don't feed them a clipped signal, etc...all the things that are good ideas with any speaker) they should last you for many years. In fact, I'd say that it's more non-music related factors that will contribute to their...

    Martin Logan vs Final Sound?

If you're in the NC area, I can point you in the right direction, but I'm not sure outside of that. If you call final sound usa's headquarters, I'd bet they could tell you though. Price range is from $2000-$11000 (300i-1000i) - but I think the 600i ($6000) or 1000i ($11000) are the way you...

    Martin Logan vs Final Sound?

Yup, to each his own. I had Quest Zs...and regularly listened to summits, and demoed Vistas and Vantages a number of times...and always came away thinking "wow, that sounds great on well recorded music" ... and started buying music based on how well recorded it was, cause I just couldn't stand...

Advices for a sub to pair with my CL's

Heh...the same old argument of depth vs descent. Ideal placement from a LF Reinforcement standpoint is the corner (ie, you get the equivalent of a bigger sub from a smaller sub) while if you don't care about getting all of the Sub 25Hz oomph, then any positioning can work fine...each room...

Summits broken in and lovin em!

Yes, the S220. As tonepub noted, it sounded like a "home theater sub" to me as well. The ML Grotto, Depth, Descent are all servo and all sound great (have actually heard these). I'm partial to servo subs over any non-servo ones I've heard...but I haven't heard a lot of quality non-servo ones...

Summits broken in and lovin em!

I'd definitely be interested in hearing your impressions as well. As tonepub has made clear...different people are going to have different preferences. There is no "better" speaker...no matter how strongly I prefer my choice! :D I tend to get caught up in my opinion and sometimes start to...

Summits broken in and lovin em!

Absolutely...to each their own! My initial impression was also one of less detail with the finals...but the more I listened and compared...the more it felt like this was the case only because of the "delicate" presentation of the MLs...in which much body was missing. As much as I loved...

Summits broken in and lovin em!

I've not heard quads...so I can't make a comparison. Not that you like this kind of music...but listen to something along the lines of "zoe jane" by Staind, or anything by audioslave, etc...and that's where the thin quality comes out. The beauty of "zoe jane" is in the rich guitar notes, which...

Summits broken in and lovin em!

What kind of music do you listen to mostly? I only wonder, since I've had the exact opposite impression of the finals vs the Summits. Are you running the finals with a sub? Which one? In my impressions the summits seem to create a "thinner" picture of things, where you get tons of detail but...

    Rowing machines?

I rowed for a year in college...and we had a ton of Concept 2s, and some antiquated "technique" type machines... Concept 2s are definitely loud...but nothing some loud 80s rock or Metallica's "Enter Sandman" couldn't drown out ;) Let us know how the water rower works out...especially sound wise.

First Audition of New Stats. Heresy to follow!

The comparision was done on a Pass X250. If you need more/better amplification than that...then you start to further widen the value gap...

    car audio?

Agreed...not only is a bad listening environment...(hard plastic and glass are more of your worries than the upholstery) .... but you also have temperature fluxuations that cause drivers to react differently, and have fairly bad rigidity and resonance problems in an untreated car door space...

    Which Sub????

The grotto and DD subs are both servo subs...and I would venture to say they're both extremely musical...about the best you can get in that regard. The difference between the grotto and depth and descent is primarily output (which translates to slightly lower distortion as well, at any given...

    Portable Flac - Rio Karma?

I owned one...It's bulky...like a little bit smaller klondike bar...but if you're comparing it to any 20GB device, it's fairly similar... Sound quality was exceptional with FLAC, and got plenty loud with reasonably efficient headphones. Also had pretty great battery life compared to Ipods. I...

    Which Sub????

Second the smaller DD or Grotto. Great deal at $750. The EQ abilities of the DD subs are really great though.

Sounds like a plan! A charlotte meet and a fayettville meet? We could get a circuit going! :D

    matching Martin Logans with Finalsounds

Absolutely...there are very very few speakers out there than can reach sub 20Hz with authority without the addition of a sub. Didn't mean it as a knock to the summits. I believe their range is perfect for pretty much all music...
