    Tubes Are Better Because...

Which feeds this......Eimac 304TL's running PP class A. Two of these tubes gets almost 300 audio watts, but the dissipated heat is unbelievable. All of this makes one channel , multiply by two and you're really boiling off some electrons... Tubes are cool.......... Tj

    Tubes Are Better Because...

I'm guessing Kerry wouldn't like this one........prototype power supply for my new amplifier. 1600 volts @ 550 mA from a pair of 3B28 Xenon rectifiers. Yes, it takes two people to move it....

    Anyone recognize these stands?

The above mentioned 'Rack of Silence' seems to have quite a few neat features and options, which unfortunately are not discussed in detail even on the mfr's website. The stainless-steel ball footers seem like ideal isolation in theory, but I wonder how securely they hold a component; surely...

    Opinions on Tube Amp Problem?

Correct, you shouldnt operate most tube amps without the speakers being connected. The output transformer is loaded down by the speakers, and that load is 'reflected' back to the tube circuit's output stage......hence the speaker is part of the amps design, so to speak. Jeff is also correct...

    Anyone recognize these stands?

Yup, thats the one. The open frame unit does seem to have a bit more appeal, looks sturdy. I've had my current set of racks for ~10 years, so its time for something new. Tj

For some reason I thought you were a Scotch kinda guy....... Tj

    Anyone recognize these stands?

Cool stands....I believe this was a photo from RMAF, but cant identify the make. Anyone recognize the mfr? Its either these, or the new GX4/GR4 racks from Adona. I've never cared much for the 'industrial' look of audio racks made from structural aluminum members, but their latest racks made...

    Do-it-yourself- Tube Amps?

How about getting your feet wet with something like a preamp kit or tube phono stage? Power amplifiers have lotsa expensive parts....mistakes can be costly. Check out the Bottlehead site. Nice kits and lots of user support, including some user's DIY pages that document the complete assembly. Tj

    Do-it-yourself- Tube Amps?

When you look at the amps in post #23, realize that the person(s) that built them probably had quite a bit of experience building the same/similar units and arrived at that method of tidy wiring over time. Soldering is easy. Re-soldering and moving wires around isnt much so. And what do you do...

The Thing about Analog is the Analog Thing

Although Tim's post was aimed at analog in the sense of TT's/vinyl, I feel the same when it comes to open reel tape, and have been listening to it for the better part of 20+ years. The same theory applies....happiness is not a box of thrift-store tapes and sure, threading is a pain, cleaning...

    I need TT help also....

Instead of the usual Sunday morning music session, I picked out a few discs and gave my TT setup a once-over based on the suggestions in this thread. Right off the top I checked cartridge wiring, VTF (both good) but did not have a better pair of interconnects to go between the phono stage and...

    I need TT help also....

The test record is a good suggestion and I'll make it a point to get one. The preamp in the link is the one I am using, the cart is an earlier Micro Glider and Google searches only seem to come up with info on the newer ones....but that deserves more research. All good ideas, I hope to get...

    I need TT help also....

Just checked, the VPI instructions for the JMW-9 arm briefly state to 'raise or lower the arm to the desired height', and to use an index card to check that the arm tube is parallel to the record as a starting point for tuning VTA. Nothing beyond that is covered in terms of optimum VTA. Is...

    I need TT help also....

The table sat in its box since purchasing it, and the cart was not part of the deal. Originally I was going towards a Blackbird or BP Evo III, but stumbled upon the rebuilt Benz at a pretty good price. Soundsmith has a reputation for quality work (so I've been told). The cart came with a report...

    Rogue's Gallery--watch your wallet...

I hate to sound so right wing...Brian (HSVtoolfool) would likely agree as I like his posts on similiar subjects....but after selling one home, building another (big home), selling one business, becoming partner in another business and moving a bunch of investments and finances around; both my...

    I need TT help also....

A few fellows here really know their way around TT's so I ask for some help... A bit more than a year ago I purchased Joey's (where's he been?) Scoutmaster, which sat packed away while our home was being built. After finally setting it up and getting some vinyl time in, I am disappointed when...

Bob Carver Opening repair shop w/ Rita Helm

I have a pretty old 'Magnetic Field Amplifier' that has gone up in flames more than a few times. Seems to have been developed at the onset of their 'downtracking' power supply technology. Maybe that should go in for a re-work. When I say flames, I literally mean *POOF*! Odd as a buddy of...

    Rogue's Gallery--watch your wallet...

I'm not so sure that this is a case of money addiction or other related mental disfunction.....I am almost convinced that fraud and corruption in the financial world is the norm. Its only in recent times of tough economical circumstances (which have heavily burdened the overtaxed the middle...

Has anyone ever arced a panel?

Ah, Terminator. One of my favorites.....just didnt get it at first :o No naked man, no chrome guys, either. And man, my cat can run FAST. As my audio room is upstairs, perhaps it is a bit dry up there, but so far I've been running SS amplifiers at 650 watts/channel and no flash with them...

Has anyone ever arced a panel?

Hmmmmm......you lost me on that one.......:( No naked men, but my cat sure beat it out of the room pretty quick... Someone clue me in on the naked man thing......... Tj
