Quick Q: Sunfire Amps...older vs. newer models

I used to use a Sunfire Signature Series II with my CLS2z and I feel it is a totally different animal than a Pass...power is there but it is an amplifier that was designed with a "sound" in mind...tube like...smooth...fun with a lot of depth and lower dampening factor... more Conrad Johnson...

    Adcom 5800 + Request ?

I used to have an old Adcom GFA-555 for whole house background music and tried it once with my CLSz2...it would work fine despite its tilted up nature and though the impedence is low at the top of the band not much musical energy is present ie: the amp is not being called on to produce much...

    1 Amp to Monoblocks-Differences??

not sure but I went the reverse...tried a pair of Bryston 7BSST and then their 14BSST...same sonics IMO from my CLSZ2s...so I bought the 14...may just be this company?

What kind of Music Server does everyone have??

Modwright Transporter in main system gives a little of that tube depth to Pandora and can also bypass the tube analog stage and send it to the Benchmark pre/dac if I just want the facts. I also use the standard Squeezebox in the other system and it is hard to fault for the $.

    System #47 (CLS)

How did your custom Dynaco ST-70 turn out ?...I wish someone would provide a similar chassis layout...I have heard th Bob Latino kit and it is excellent but do not like the old style looks.

    System #357 (SL3)

Welcome...still have a soft spot for the SL3...was my first ML speaker and at that time I used Carver amps( m1.5 and Pm1.5 ) like you...very :music:

    Krell

    NOW!...if those two designers got together...watch out:bowdown:

    SL3 vs Quest

I owned the SL3 and it was/is excellent ...listened to the Request and midrange image was very sightly better due to lower crossover(?)...but I felt the quality of bass was better with the SL3.

    Bryston SST Squared?

on the other hand..I audtioned the CJ Premier 350, Krell monoblocks, Rotel 1090 and Mac 501 on Revels and the Maggie 3.6...only the Krell 700 monoblocks had the resolution I wanted...then I had the chance to try the Krells and the 7bsst Bryston at my home on my CLSZ2...both were very...

    First Logan experience

...went to Audible Elegance in Cincinnati to pick out a new cd player as a Magnavox had died. The Rotel RCD 965 had just been introduced (Stereophile panned it). The manager was using SL-3s as the demo speaker to compare cd players and ended up buying it and the SL-3s. I used them for years with...

    Bryston SST Squared?

I use a 14BSST driving my CLSZ2...Bryston is very "straight wire" sound ...sorta like a passive preamp..whatever you put in comes out factual without gloss and that is certainly not for everyone. I cannot really say I hear much difference with the new seies 2. I would like to try a new Conrad...

    martin logans' decline

High end is trust and reputation...when the CLS was first introduced it had '"panel" problems that lead to a lot of warranty replacements. The company stepped up to the plate and did the right thing. If you intend to play in the high end world (CLX)...you need to be a responsive company and if...

My rebirth of a Dynaco ST-70

The chassis/layout is perfect with the can cap removed/moved and the rectifier tube centered... I wish "tube4hifi" which has a nice updated version of the ST-70 would offer a chassis like this...I would purchase a kit in a second.

    martin logans' decline

replacement parts / panels are necessary for continued loyalty...I plan to buy the Summit X or it's replacement when I retire to a smaller space that won't work for my CLSz...but if I could not buy replacements if my CLS went south...no more Martin Logans in my house.

    Hope for Pandora

they are the primary reason I bought the Transporter!

    Wilson Audio

Very nice speakers but until I heard their new Sasha never felt they were very refined...they will play loud though and stay uncompressed but from what I hear the JBL DD66000 may be the champ :rocker: in that category.

Speakers You Have Known And Loved...

If you get the chance ..try to find a second pair...the Double Advent concept back in it's day was really good. I used to have a pair in college(yes I am old) and they trumpted the other big speaker in the house which was an AR LST.

Speakers You Have Known And Loved...

had and loved... Realistic Electrostatic 2A, Dynaco A-25, Large Advent, JBL L-88 plus RTR ERS-6 add on, ESS Heil AMT tweeter with Seas W18eoo1 project....have now as a family room back-up...Troels TJL2W:music:....plan to try/build in the future...LOU's Cryolites and maybe an all active Fountek...

    If not ML...what other speaker?

I built the Troel Gravesen TJL2W and use them in another room:music:....very clear/revealing speaker...would probably be a great monitor IMHO.

Updating the old - Do you want to?

I kinda been harping on this thought for a while myself...I realise that it may require some re-engineering and $$ the corporation does not want to incur. I also realise they do not want their old products to compete with their new products. There is a sonic/clarity difference between the mico...
