    Successor to Masterpiece speakers

So I guess it's been a few years now since ML came out with the current Masterpiece line of speakers . Has anyone heard any rumors of any new speakers being introduced?

    Problem with Martin Logan Odyssey.

I had a similar issue with my ESL 13a speakers. It only happened with some music and/or recordings. At first I thought it was an issue with the speakers, but then I borrowed my neighbour's speakers and still the same issue. It turned out that it was something in the room resonating at about...

    Not a glowing report

However, agree with Floyd Toole on the fact that manufacturers do not provide adequate spec. information on their products. As he said, car tires have more information on them then a typical audio component.

    Not a glowing report

So the frequency response graph Floyd Toole shows in his presentation on the YouTube video comes from page 394 of his book "Sound Reproduction: Loudspeakers and Rooms". This book was published in 2008. So the measurement taken no later than 2008 and probably earlier and are thus at least 13...

    Not a glowing report

I wonder if that is the reason that ML changed the panel support design in the Masterpiece series quite significantly from the previous one. My ESL13a supports are quite different from the Montis which I owned previously.

    Not a glowing report

Len44, Agree. It had nothing to do with what he was talking about which was flatness of frequency response. And his observation that ESLs are more sensitive to listener location than conventional speakers is nothing new. I am curious as to where all those resonances came from however. Unlike...

    Not a glowing report

Roberto, Floyd Toole has a very good reputation. But it seems that he is not very knowledgeable about ESL. Everything that I have read about ESL always talks about speed, accuracy, and very low mass membranes as outstanding/unique qualities. He completely dismisses this. Strange.

    Not a glowing report

Floyd Toole also makes the comment that electrostats aren't fast, low mass, and accurate. I thought that it was pretty much beyond dispute that stats are low mass compared to cones. Also, it has always been known that the sweet spot for ESLs is small. It's something we learn to live with. So...

Another Vote for Shawn at DaVinci Media

I do agree. Bought a pair of Montis from DaVinci a few years ago and then upgraded to Expression 13a last July. Had a very good experience. Recommended.

    Resonance (distortion) in ESL 13a

Roberto, Thank you! I will give it a try today. It was also suggested that I give more time for the speakers to break-in. I think I'll wait a month and see if there is improvement. If not, I'll call Martin Logan.

roberto, Thanks. I'll give it a try. Did your harsh sound seem like a distortion?

    Resonance (distortion) in ESL 13a

sleepysurf, ttocs Thx, I did try turning of ARC but unfortunately, it didn't make any difference. The thing is that in 95% of the time it sounds great. As I said before, it seems to be associated with stringed instruments., ie. bass, cello, guitar. 95% of the time, strings sounds great, but...

    Resonance (distortion) in ESL 13a

I recently upgraded from Montis to Expressions. Overall, the improvement over the Montis is very evident. However, I have noticed that I hear a resonance or buzzing sound when stringed instruments such as guitar or bass are being played solo. For example, when a guitar string is plucked, I can...

    System #538 (Renaissance ESL 15A)

Do you have an ARC room correction kit? It would be interesting to see what the effect is. Basically what you have there is an anechoic chamber.

    Power Cords for M/L 13a B212 Make a difference ?

Tug Hill is a place in Central New York on the eastern shores of Lake Ontario. It is notorious for huge snowfalls due to something called "Lake Effect". Back in the 70's, Tug Hill once received 40 feet of snow.

    Power Cords for M/L 13a B212 Make a difference ?

The good news is that his system sounds amazing. The bad news is that you glow in the dark afterwards.
