The Best of Times, the Worst of Times

Agreed the 781 is a great machine... And the folks at Wadia are great guys.

    A few Jeff Beck shots

Sorry, I'm not Jim Marshall. Even Marshall admitted that these days it would be a lot tougher to get the shots if at all with a simple rangefinder setup. Back in his day and even when I started shooting concerts in the 70's, when you got backstage access, you could shoot the whole show...

    The wait is over!

I've always found the Summits to be incredibly dynamic as well. No they won't do the last 10% or so that a top of the line dynamic speaker will, but as someone who likes a fair amount of pretty heavy music, I was never disappointed listening to headbanger material with the Summits. The key to...

What album or song is your guilty pleasure?

too many to list, but I still have fun listening to Styx and REO Speedwagon. Can't take the Midwest out of the boy...

What kind of Music Server does everyone have??

The Sooloos doesn't use RAID's. The backup drives are mirrored to the primary, and just to be safe, I bought a 6TB Drobo that I back up once every couple of months and then shut off. Have kept all my physical media just in case, and for serious listening still use the transport on my dCS, as...

What kind of Music Server does everyone have??

Don't know what you're talking about as far as the "Proprietary format" goes. Naim rips in .wav and will read .wav, .flac, MP3 and others. Same for everything else. If Meridian or Naim ever go away, I've got 6500 CD's ripped in .flac with EAC. Can easily change hardware. The main reason I...

    what a Jerk

Gotta agree with that Rich... This war thing is going to bankrupt us. If memory serves me correctly, hasn't every other country that started a conflict in Afg. almost gone broke as well?

    System #196 (Aerius)

Those Aerius are great speakers. I really loved mine when I had em. Used to use an Audio Research D-79 with mine and it was a fantastic combination.

What kind of Music Server does everyone have??

Nope, just been buying a lot of music all of my life. I wish it grew on trees... I've probably got the smallest collection of most of my staff, about 6500 CD's, about 500 high res discs and about 5000 albums. Our music editor easily has three times that, and our "Musical Advisor", Terry has...

What kind of Music Server does everyone have??

Not that easy to box up 6500 CD's... :) Don't think I would trust anyone else with my music collection either...

which tap are you using to drive the CLX's? I'd use the 4 ohm instead of the 8, and this amp does not have a ton of current. Might not be a great match for CLS's, especially old ones that aren't as efficient as they were new.

Just got monoblock amps for my Summits... setup question

It's probably going to be more expensive to run long speaker cables. Especially if you are going balanced, start there first as it will probably be a lot easier to run long interconnects as well...

What kind of Music Server does everyone have??

I have to agree that ripping over 6000 CD's was no fun. Again, the Sooloos made it less painful with it's network client. I was able to use our six computers on the network and borrowed a few laptops from friends. I think I got my whole collection ripped in a few weekends, but it was nonstop...

What kind of Music Server does everyone have??

Actually, it is.... You can use multiple Control 10's or run it from the Sooloos desktop client on a mac or pc. And you can control the playback quality remotely as well. The Q Sonix isn't bad either. As for the pricing, compared to comparable solutions, Sooloos is price competitive. The...
