    Summit: correct Mains Polarity

Well you need to find a musical situation where it's audible. There is absolutely no burn-in in AC power circuits.

    Do power cords matter?

I think that we are confusing: wire = conductor with cable = two or more conductors Most US 240V cables have 4 conductors: Hot 1 Hot 2 Neutral Safety Ground

    AC wall outlets

Only sub-panels have an insulated Neutral bus. The insulated Ground bus is for the IG. Main panels don't have insulated Neutral or Ground buses. It's not bad, but it's no different than regular receptacles. The reason for a IG system is to prevent noise currents, leakage currents, lost Neutral...

    AC wall outlets

The three most common Isolated Ground system errors might be: 1] Running the IG wire to a isolated ground rod rather than to the main panel Neutral. 2] Running a IG wire from each individual outlet back to the main panel Neutral. 3] Having an IG system in a Romex® or plastic conduit circuit...

    AC wall outlets

It's a generalization, I don't know anything about sharok's installation. But it does seem to be doing the job. **************************** I do know that a decade ago, when Audio Precision built their new location, commercial electricians messed up a bunch of circuits.

    AC wall outlets

But with IG circuits there are different levels of incorrect. a] Danger to human life. b] Meets code but no noise benefits.

    AC wall outlets

Unfortunately with Isolated Grounds, there is a good chance that they will be installed incorrectly. And in large studio IG systems, IT IG systems and industrial instrumentation IG systems, over the years new personal will mess it up. Two clues that an IG system was done wrong: a] More Safety...

    AC wall outlets

All a receptacle can do is make a good low resistance connection and continue to do that thru the years and repeated plug insertions. Top shelf receptacles from a electrical supply store do just that.

What speaker wires do you use?

What about? 'My wife in the kitchen..........' 'I'm a skeptic, but............'

    Surge Protection

Oh, those black wires? They might make it difficult to get the cover plate on. In a home there might not be much to balance. Everything in a home cycles so randomly. Modern lighting systems don't draw current like the old ones. You can split: Heating/air conditioning, water heater and clothes...

    Surge Protection

I had a master electrician inform me that my wiring would not pass a home inspection whenever I sell my home in the future. Did he say why? Maybe it's about AFCI and GFCI circuit breakers. The newer require these in more and more circuit locations. The GFCI's are mostly OK but the AFCI's can be...

    Cable/gauge?

    Cable/gauge?

How can Paul McGowan get so, so many things wrong? Why when he makes a statement, doesn't he show some supporting reasoning?
  14. S

    Cable/gauge?

Maybe we are using three definitions of strand. a] Several small wires making one conductor or core. b] One insulated conductor or core. 18AWG stranded 65x36 42x34 19x30 16x30 7x26
  15. S

    Cable/gauge?

Dan, it's not just the number of strands that you are changing. You're changing all the L,C,R values and they are much more important than the stranding.
  16. S

    Cable/gauge?

Well the Sanders Sound Systems - Cables White Paper does have a lot of good stuff, but it does have bad stuff as well. a] Speaker cables and damping don't work exactly that way. b] Coax speaker cables, there is no free lunch in the capacitance/inductance trade-off. c] Interconnect coax cables...
  17. S

    Cable/gauge?

It would be had to find cables with lots of strands, few strands and solid, with matching total R, C & L values, all at the same length. Before you can talk about stranding, then much more important parameters must be equal.
  18. S

    Cable/gauge?

Lots of strands, few strands or solid = no difference in sound.
  19. S

    Speaker wire/interconnect?

If the amps are on another AC power circuit, then long RCA interconnects can be problematic. Otherwise RFI and/or power cords will not be a problem. If you do use long RCA interconnects (well more than 10 feet/3 meters) then use Blue Jeans Cable LC-1 cables.
