    Upgrade of AC Power Cables

Many think that they can hear a difference, but very few ever demonstrate that they can in fact hear that difference.

    Upgrade of AC Power Cables

Shunyata Research claims their cables do the exact opposite of what many audiophiles buy power conditioners to do.

    Upgrade of AC Power Cables

The thing in the middle of the cable is a toy! Who cares about filters in the radio frequency range? Effective power line filters at the important lower frequencies are big things (inches by inches by inches). Any cord with an effective filter is really a filter with an attached cord.

    Upgrade of AC Power Cables

Power line filters are big things, power cords are not filters. Think of the power line as a chain stretching all the way back to the power company transformer down the street. Adding few heavy links to a chain does not make it stronger nor does added a short heavy power cord. Not all power...

    DIY Cross-connected Coaxial Speaker Cables

He chose Teflon for audiophile reasons, there are no good engineering reasons for doing so. Also there are no good engineering reasons for making a cable like this. Yes for better high frequency response, you want less loop inductance. Thinner insulation like Teflon sometimes is, allows the...

    DIY Cross-connected Coaxial Speaker Cables

At audio frequencies and loudspeaker voltage levels, the cable dielectric doesn't matter at all. Now for small voltages, long cables and 100 MHz signals the dielectric matters a lot.

Importance of room treatments and ground

Any new ground rods must be connected to the AC power system at the same single point as other existing ground rods. Magic grounding boxes can not be used as part of the AC power grounding system.

Importance of room treatments and ground

While room treatments can be very effective, but the connection to Planet Earth has almost no effect on day-to-day AC power quality. It's there for safety during high voltage events (like thunderstorms) and around swimming pools and such. There is a common misunderstanding in many field that...

The Story of an EAR-diophile ... and the humor and insanity ! (long fun read)

I would place measuring to a fraction of an inch in the same category as $1000 cords.

    Subwoofer cable

For any long RCA interconnect cables, chose a coax with a heavy braided shield. The Blue Jeans Cable LC-1 is a very good example. For this purpose there are some very good 75 Ohm cables (heck most coax cables are 75 Ohm, it cost more to manufacture other impedances) and some very poor 75 Ohm...

What speaker wires do you use?

Won't the particular power amplifier be part of the equation?

What speaker wires do you use?

Now that's hard to believe. Any real engineering papers? ********************** And if it's real, why not chose a good cable and add a small power resistor to taste?

What speaker wires do you use?

When is a low R not a very good thing?

What speaker wires do you use?

For a truly low budget solution, consider 14AWG Romex 3 conductor plus ground. Wired as a Star-Quad with the Red & Black as one conductor and the White and Ground as the other. The specs should be between the 2972 and 3104. The two drawbacks are: it's stiff and ugly. Did I mention that it's stiff?

What speaker wires do you use?

    Other options might be, the Mogami 2971 and 3104 four conductor cables wired as Star-Quads. Estimated specs: 2972 L – 0.105 µH/ft C – 60 pF/ft R – 0.00135 Ω/ft 3104 L – 0.09 µH/ft C – 55 pF/ft R – 0.0008 Ω/ft The capacitance numbers are a guess at best.

What speaker wires do you use?

    So a little less inductance and a lot more capacitance than their UTP 3103. L – 0.18 µH/ft C – 30.5 pF/ft R – 0.0015 Ω/ft

What speaker wires do you use?

And you have RLC specifications for such a coax cable?
  19. S

What speaker wires do you use?

Inductance is dependable of how close the two wires are. If thy are twisted together, you can reduce it dramatically. If you can not twist them together, then separate them at least 1/2 an inch. This will reduce the inductance. You have that upside down. The closer together, the less inductance...

    Summit: correct Mains Polarity

The AC power polarity swap is about background noise/interference/leakage levels. All are in the 50/60Hz to maybe 500/600Hz range and none of which are stored.
