Cables: How Important is Equal Length?

At this point, I have no clue as to what I was trying to say. But it looks like a large part of my thought never made it to paper.

Cables: How Important is Equal Length?

Another option is from Ram Electronics: https://www.ramelectronics.net/ac-power-cables.aspx Their PC & PCF cables are very nice or you could DIY a similar cable. I have the part numbers from Parts Express. But only connect the shield at the hi-fi component end.

Cables: How Important is Equal Length?

Seldom read about parallel AC power cord and speaker cables. But anyway if the speaker cables are a tightly spaced twisted pair (or quad) and you separate them from the power cords by 3 inches or more you should be OK.

Cables: How Important is Equal Length?

See post # 41. Although, 6 feet out of 50 to 500 feet, won't make much difference. It's a series circuit. So some things matter back to the main breaker panel and other things matter all the way back to the power company transformer.

Cables: How Important is Equal Length?

This is very true for completed cables. If the shield/ground is attached differently at each end connector, then the cable will be directional (in respect to interference & noise). How or if this impacts the sound will vary with each situation. But the claim that with an audio signal a...

Cables: How Important is Equal Length?

Not all cables are good cables! (far from it, but there are engineering reasons as to why) Not all cables that are OK in one situation will be OK in other situations.

Cables: How Important is Equal Length?

Yep! you can skip the math parts. Ground Loops: The Rest of the Story Bill Whitlock, AES Fellow and Jamie Fox, P.E. This paper was presented at the AES 129th Convention, 4-7 November 2010, San Francisco, CA, USA ABSTRACT The mechanisms that enable so-called ground loops to cause well-known...

Cables: How Important is Equal Length?

I would recommend NOT reading the Steve Reeve blog: http://image99.net/blog/files/category-002ahelix-power-cable.html While he gets some things correct, the things the he gets wrong are very very wrong!

Cables: How Important is Equal Length?

To the contrary, that power cord rational is based on Ohm's & Kirchhoff's Law.

    CLX Art Impedance Curve

Yes with an impedance curve like that, they will be more sensitive to speaker cable differences than about any loudspeakers that you name. It's about the cable's total end-to-end resistance & inductance, not the spec per meter values.

20 amp vs 15 amp power cord

On 15 & 20 Amp plugs and receptacles: a] The receptacles in wall outlets are the 5-15R(15 Amp) and the 5-20R(20 Amp)units. (they have different pin arrangements) The 20 Amp receptacles are only permitted in 20 Amp circuits. If 15 Amp receptacles are used in a 20 Amp circuit, then 2 or more...

Cables: How Important is Equal Length?

For XLR or RCA interconnects, equal length has no importance. We made concert hall classical music recording with one 100 meter cable and another 20 meter cable (yes there were also other cables). For loudspeakers with demanding impedance curves (like some ML speakers) then the speaker cable...

I too have enjoyed reading Ethan's pages over the years. But he rubs some people the wrong way.

Food for Thought ........some more 'Ethanism' !

The name sort of implies that he is the expert. If he had named it "Be an Audio Expert", I think that it would have been better accepted.

Food for Thought ........some more 'Ethanism' !

There was a web article about how one major receiver manufacture that used the same basic circuit in 3 price lines would write the spec differently for each product. Some manufactures write specs that any of their products can better any way any how. While other companies specs are based on the...

Food for Thought ........some more 'Ethanism' !

That's an over simplification! But in the end, specs don't matter. What matters are measurements and even then they have to be the correct measurements.

    Upgrade of AC Power Cables

I'm not writing about opinion. I'm writing about good engineering practice. If they have supportable viewpoints, fine. It's long past time for some audiophiles to face reality. * * * * Roberto, do any of the above links have real supportable demonstrations or tests? My system or anybody...

    Upgrade of AC Power Cables

It's not about the people that have these cables. It's about encouraging others to waste money on these cables. If you have aftermarket cables fine, just don't write about how good they are.
