Foundation Research Power Cord With Integral Conditioner

HEYY! We export power to PA, and it's all clean! :) You have a point, Dave, but I expect that along their travels the lines pick up a lot of crap. I've been listening to digital today, of course with an ordinary garden hose sized power cable driving my DAC. The improvement is amazing.

Foundation Research Power Cord With Integral Conditioner

I took delivery yesterday of my second LC1. Disconnected the first LC1 from my DAC, and connected both units to power my speakers. Glad I bought them. Before the connection I listened to some vinyl, then repeated with the same vinyl after connection. A big improvement across the board, top...

    Summits/tubes

I like the Prima Luna "Autobias" feature. They state that if a tube blows it is identified as such, you just replace that single tube, and you're all set; you do not have to replace it as part of a matched pair.

    Cassette Tape

I have a cassette deck I was intending to take to Best Buy, to be disposed of and recycled, but if anyone here would like to offer me a couple hundred bucks for it, can we talk? :) It is a Technics deck that should be good for a few more decades. Too bad it is 110V only, or I'd consider...

    Audiophiles ......... what a strange lot !

Craig, I used to have a Thorens as well (TD 160), with a Shure M91ED. I went from the Shure, to AKG, to Ortofon MM, to Supex, and finally to Koetsu; I'm not changing from Koetsu. Have you tried a moving coil cartridge in your system?

Foundation Research Power Cord With Integral Conditioner

Adam, I'm curious as to why you bought a power conditioner. As explained by others, in other threads, after the AC goes through the power supply components, it emerges as pure DC, so theoreticallty what came before does not matter.

Foundation Research Power Cord With Integral Conditioner

I just looked up the price of Synergistic Black fuses....Holy Cow! US$120 for a single fuse! I can't afford to play. My budget for toys is too limited for me to splurge on that.

Foundation Research Power Cord With Integral Conditioner

This is a power conditioner, not a power cable. When it doesn't cost me anything to try it out, I am loathe to dismiss something without listening to it first (especially when others claim that they hear a difference).....I am not like the kid who says he has never tried mushrooms because he...

Foundation Research Power Cord With Integral Conditioner

Hi Bill: Thanks for the info. There is currently an LC10 on Canuck Audio Mart for $875... somewhat out of my price range, much as I'd like to buy it. I have a VPI PLC for my turntable, so I'm covered there. I've not done any investigation on fuses; I should.

Foundation Research Power Cord With Integral Conditioner

I am awaiting delivery of a second Foundation Research LC1, this one for my preamp (which I will have to modify by replacing the captive power cord with an IEC inlet); I managed to get this one at the same (reasonable) price as the last one. Of course, the first thing I will do is use the two...

    Obsessive hobbies....

I'm envious of Mark's woodworking abilities and collection of tools. I need a lower stand for my hifi system. I've seen a gorgeous one online in wood, but the CAD $5K price is high.

    Mixing old & new

I too have an ARC SP9 (mine is a Mk II). If you are handy with modifying electronics, I suggest that you replace the volume pot with a DACT stepped attenuator. It really improves the sound of the ARC. It's not cheap at $200, but is well worth it.

    Obsessive hobbies....

Do cooking and baking count as an obsessive hobby? At the end of the day, after working all day with vaporware, it used to be great to come home and work on something I could actually eat (it was tangible). And no, I don't weigh 400lb; I'm a 150lb weakling!

Foundation Research Power Cord With Integral Conditioner

Adam, reading your question made me curious too about this digital filter, so I Googled it; link below to the Shunyate web site. It seems that it it is a filter that prevents high-frequency noise generated by digital components from getting back into the power line (and impacting other...

Foundation Research Power Cord With Integral Conditioner

Hi Gordon. I'm glad you're enjoying your Shunyatas. I bought one just to try it out when I saw it on Canuck Audio Mart; got it for $100. When it arrived I found it too stiff to use, so I promptly relisted it. Got an offer within an hour from someone local, who came to pick it up 3 hours...

Foundation Research Power Cord With Integral Conditioner

True. One thing this highlighted for me is that there does not seem to be a standard for IEC connectors. I can see the power cable falling out of the DAC if the DAC is moved, but it fits better into other components. I'm really amazed that the power cable supplied with my MLs does not mate...

Foundation Research Power Cord With Integral Conditioner

I have yet to see a fan with an IEC connector.....maybe in Oz? :)
