    Hi Def DVD Influence?

They don't have a full function remote, and limited inputs, but the Meridian 565 I'm using can't be beat for the price. You can get a used DTS version for around $1k or so. It doesn't have video switching and has very limited inputs, but I've found 2 digital and one analog is all I need these...

    Bright logans

Yeah, the main reason I suggested the CAT 5 first is because it's really cheap. Don't know for sure that it's the problem, but it can't hurt. BTW, I assume you aren't using any of the surround modes on the Rotel for music, they can screw with the sound pretty severely.

New to Martin Logan - in over my head?

The center channel really only matters if you can't sit in the sweet spot. I'm not a big fan of center channel speakers, my thoughts are why spend all that money on main speakers then put 75% of the vocals out a smaller, cheaper speaker. I'd say don't get a center at first. That way you can...

    Bright logans

When you strip the CAT 5 you'll see there are 5-6 small wires in each run, you'll have to strip them independently then twist them together. If you search on the web you'll see a more complex recipie for CAT 5 speaker cable, but since you're just doing it to experiment, I'd just do one CAT 5...

    Bright logans

I have never known a conditioner to affect the briteness of a system. Clarity and sounstage yes, but not tone. Rotel stuff isn't overly warm, but shouldn't be bright. If you are using Rat Shack or Monster speaker cable that could be a factor. The digital interconnect should be fine. I...

    adding tubes to the path...

What about a tube DAC or tube CD player? I'm guessing the critical listening only happend on CD, not movies.

    amp recommendation for Martin Logan

You, everyone keeps throwing out amp recomendations, but I think we are missing the point that the amp should be selected to match the preamp. Normally I pick a preamp first, then find an amp who's character matches it, but you could easily go the reverse, but I think it's a mistake to pick one...

    Aerius tweeks

Cost and size. Those are 100mfd and 170mfd and 30mfd caps. Replacing those would be much more expensive, and I wanted to experiment with the Bypassing that North Creek recomends. The bypass caps are .22mfd, North Creek sells 2 versions: .22 and 1.0. I can't promise you'll notice an...

    Aerius tweeks

Caps Finally got around to doing the cap upgrade. I had originally planned to replace just the 10mfd cap in each speaker and bypass the other caps in the stator circuit (2). So I got 2 10mfd Harmony caps and 4 Zen bypass caps (0.22mfd). Total cost for both speakers, delivered was $36...

    Aerius tweeks

I ordered the caps, I'm experimenting with North Creek Zen caps, as I've had good luck with them on my old Magies, but I've never used them exclusively before. I haven't had time to install them yet. As a cost effective experiment I decided to get one 10mfd cap to replace the solen, and...

    Aerius tweeks

I tried posting a reply with the follow up images but apparently this forum has a limit on the number of images that can be posted so I put the details on the swap on a web page at: Stator wire solder tweek

    System #49 (SL3)

The Meridian supports stereo sub preamp output with separate right and left sub channels, and does the crossover internally. It also supports a direct output mode that doesn't do any processing (well, less anyway) and cuts the subs out of the system for when I want to listen to pure music...

    Solder stator wires?

See Tweeks section I decided to do a writeup in the tweeks section. It's moderated so it should show up there soon. I'll document all the steps there.

    Aerius tweeks

I asked a few questions about the Aerius and realized I should put everything in one place here in the tweeks section. I'm going to do some internal tweeks to my Aerius' in the next few weeks and I'll be posting on this thread until it's done. The tweeks I'm looking at are: 1. Clean them...but...
