    Popping noise when turning on

Yes, I did. It doesn't pop with other speakers. Also, it has a delay to prevent just that (I think, or is there any other reason for a delay circuit?). What's more, there is no popping noise if the speakers had been used recently, i.e. if the panels are still charged. It happens only on a "cold...

    High Pitched Whine

This has been resolved, with the help of Hifi Zenit (which also did the refurbished panels): It was indeed debris within the panels. The dealer suspected insects or similar. However, a very intense vacuuming with the highest power setting and the smallest nozzle did the trick.

    Popping noise when turning on

Not really. We have a dog, though, so I supected dog hair getting in the panels - what do you think?

    Popping noise when turning on

No, this developed recently. Also, it only does it on a "cold start" of the speakers. Not when they have been used recently (same day). I am using solid core speaker wire.

    Popping noise when turning on

I don`t, right now. However. the hiss is there also with the amp diconnected. The amp is about 10 years old.

    High Pitched Whine

Sorry for opening yet another thread…. One of my Aeons have developed a high pitched whine which is very annoying. It is so loud you can hear it from the next room, so not subtle at all. The same speaker/panels also has some static when no music is playing, but that is only audible from less...

    Popping noise when turning on

Thank you. Both speakers show the same behaviour, one of the a little more than the other. Also: the popping only occurs if the speakers have been off for some time / overnight, i.e. discharged. If I play music, switch off the amp and switch it back on after a short while, there is no pop...

Reviving older ESLs - burn-in required?

Room size would be the main reason, floorplans are another. But this is just from my experience. Also, it is rare to have a dedicated listening room, even if you have a house (and not an apartment). It will all happen in the living room, which will compromise speaker placement and seating position.

Reviving older ESLs - burn-in required?

Thank you for your encouragement – I will continue experimenting 😉 Unfortunately, I don´t have a dedicated listening room and a flat with numerous neighbours – so I do have to compromise in terms of listening volume… Also, other (box type) speakers I own or tried do not fall off that quickly if...

    Popping noise when turning on

Hello all, my Aeon i's have developed a strange behaviour: When I turn on the amp (which is a Musical Fidelity M6i), they make a sharp popping/crackling noise. The amp is only powering the panels (bass is handled by Crown amp wired directly to the woofers). The amp also has a built-in delay...

Reviving older ESLs - burn-in required?

Just a quick follow-up on the case: I have now been fiddling for weeks with speaker placement, although I am quite limited by the room here (mainly I cannot avoid sitting close to the back wall) done the "active conversion" with a separate Crown amp feeding the woofers directly done some...

Reviving older ESLs - burn-in required?

They have lots of positive reviews AND they are an ML dealer as well. That´s why I assume the work was done correctly in every way.

Reviving older ESLs - burn-in required?

That´s what they said, and I have no reason not to trust them. I will provide a drawing with dimensions. The room is good sized, but far from ideal, that's for sure. But I am really limited as this is our living room, not a dedicated listening room. That may well be the culprit for the...

Reviving older ESLs - burn-in required?

So am I - hence the question what I could be missing. Hifi Zenit is also an ML dealer - they should know what it is supposed to sound like There is an ML dealer around here, but they only carry the "big boys" - and comparing to a 15a will not really help ;-)

Reviving older ESLs - burn-in required?

From what I read, Russ Knott actually repairs the panels (recoats, replaces divider strips...). Hifi Zenit replaces everything except the metal parts, you can clearly tell. So there should be a difference, which is also reflected in the price. I will ask them for advice.

How to measure ESL frequency response?

Dear all, I'd like to measure the frequency response of my Aeon's panels. I have the basic equipment (REW, calibrated mic) and know how to measure conventional speakers. But how can I reliably measure Martin Logans? Center of panel, at what distance? Do I have to factor in the rear facing...

Reviving older ESLs - burn-in required?

Hello all, panels are back, results are in 😉 Hifi Zenit did a great job – seems like really good craftsmanship, and the process was flawless. Yes, the panels are “just” refurbished, but they look and feel brand new. So a thumbs up from my side - not cheaper than ML, but much faster! That said...

Reviving older ESLs - burn-in required?

Thank you. I know that placement ist critical. My listening room is certainly not over-damped, and it is rather large, although I have to use the shorter side of the room for practical reasons (it is also our living room, and it is all glass on one side). The sound seems very different to yours...

Reviving older ESLs - burn-in required?

They also recommend some upgrades to the crossovers - which seen already high quality, to me at least. Any advice on this?
