Preamp done, Amp done... Source/DAC next. Esoteric??

Interesting choices. Something to be said for the beauty of the Sonus Stradivari and it sounds good. I like the 800 Diamonds and enjoy the time I spend with them. However, I strongly recommend the used Alexia, a truly fantastic speaker(IMHO). I believe the going price for used Alexia's is...

    Beethoven's 5th and 9th

I originally watched the movie in 1971 when it was released. The poetry of motion and sound was stunning for its day. Several things have stuck with me over the 43 years since. The linking of the song "Singing in the Rain" and the **** scene are forever one in my mind. When I have a bottle of...

    Fuses

Call me skeptical. About a year ago a well known manufacturer of cables and chords came to my Vegas home and replaced all of my power chords and conditioners with their best. They put beautiful chords on my CLXs, Stunning chords on my Bryston 28B SST^2's, chords on my Meridian 861 v6, chords on...

bypass crossovers, run panel full range - what frequency response do you get?

Roberto, good to hear from you. I agree with everything you said. I use 4 subs to even out the bass in my room. And I agree with your musician friends sometimes it is best with the subs off and let the CLX's sing a cappella. Are you coming to CES this year? If so let me buy you a beer.

bypass crossovers, run panel full range - what frequency response do you get?

In a free market it is unlikely that Martin Logan could hold back and go "ca-ching" by letting a little more bass out for more bucks. With the CLX they attempted to make a full range electrostatic in a two panel speaker. They were only able to get down to 56 Hz at -3dB. At least the CLX got...

    New Neolith stuff

It simply said: "MartinLogan’s Justin Bright, with the mammoth $79,999/pair Neolith tower speaker." With the speaker on a pedestal it made Justin look small. Nothing new just confirming price.

    New Neolith stuff

Steve, Thanks for the video. That brings back some old memories. Of course the song was anti-drugs but I often use it to refer to life in general and in particular when I enter the realm of the "Law of diminishing returns". Gary

    New Neolith stuff

Since my primary residence is in Las Vegas I am fortunate enough to spend a reasonable amount of time each year at CES. During the January 2011 show, while I was in the ML room primarily discussing center channels with Peter Soderberg and Paul Grove (belated congrats to Paul on his promotion)...

ISIS makes me long for the days when Saddam, Muammar, and Hosni were in charge.

    Integrated Amp Choice?

Oppo. The current model 103 Oppo is only $600 and as a universal player it will handle almost any format (cd, sacd, dvd-a, blu ray, vcd). No need to go up to the Oppo 105 unless you are into high end analog. Performance is outstanding. You will find Oppo's in many high end systems. Gary

    Integrated Amp Choice?

Free market capitalism brings us choices and I like choices. If you don't like the hype, if you don't like the hyper-pricing, your solution is simple. Don't buy the product. For me, I like the freedom of choice.

Pass Labs x250.5 vs Einstein Light in the Dark amp.

Two years ago I was visiting with Roger Sanders, the founder of Sanders Audio. Roger said "Most people just don't realize how much power it takes to really make electrostatics sing". BTW the Sanders amps are excellent for ML's. Let me give you 500 and 3 reasons for choosing the Pass Labs X250.5...

    System #196 (Aerius)

Steve, Well written post with great pics. I also began my real audiophile journey with a pair of 15" Pioneer woofers. The model CS 99A in 1974 powered by a Maranz 2270 receiver. Wilson Audio does indeed make great speaker and I would say they are my favorite overall. I have a pair of Sasha...

Trouble with a Theater I center channel

I bought My first Theater in 2002 along with a pair of Prodigy's. If you have a big enough room the Prodigy's are a great speaker. So I know that your system is very capable. I moved the Prodigy's to the rears a few years ago when I acquired my CLX's. There wasn't an instant where something...

Any other big amps that should be considered?

If we're looking at amps by the pound then we must consider the Boulder 3050's. Weighing in at 450 lbs. and delivering 1500 watts of class A power per channel, these amps are BIG. And priced at only(cough, cough) $205,000. On a more realistic note the MBL 9007's are one of my favorites.

Trouble with a Theater I center channel

The ML service department has always treated me great. I bought several Theater woofers a few yeas back. I couldn't find the email regarding price but I think they were somewhere around $150 each. It is very possible that the woofers are damaged. By the way, when I reach 70 I hopefully will be...

    Prodigy wake up problem

I tried to get a copy of the Prodigy schematics a few years back (just after the company had been sold). They told me that even though the Prodigy had been discontinued the schematics contained proprietary information, therefore they would not be made available. Enough time has passed that maybe...

    Government Shutdown

Wow, I am appalled. You are calling for the execution of a US senator properly elected from the state of Texas. I thought this was a civilized forum. Guess not. Gary
