Should I be wary of the DSP in newer ML speakers?

Doing a similar thing here. Using a 2-channel preamp for music and HT passthru feature for movies/TV. I ran ARC on the Impressions, but I am not a big fan of using ARC on my Anthem AVM 60 HT processor because there is no way to completely exclude the mains from going through ARC. I know you can...

Should I be wary of the DSP in newer ML speakers?

One of the reasons I went from ESL X’s to Impression 11A’s is the built in ARC for the woofers. My room definitely requires some correction in the bass frequencies, and I liked the idea of not needing to apply any DSP to the panel in order to EQ the woofers.

Is there any way your dealer can hook both up to a pair of Classic 9's for you to A/B back and forth? Or let you borrow each to audition at home? That's the only way you'll really know for sure which one you prefer. But if it were me, I'd probably lean toward the mono's if I could get the...

The MC152 is a darn good amplifier. Yes, it's *only* 150 wpc, but that's continuous with up to 300 watts peak. I did a comparison between the MA352 integrated (320 wpc at 4 ohms) and the MC152 (150 wpc at 2/4/8 ohms) over the course of a week. To my ears, with half the watts, the MC152 was...

    Matching ML to Klipsch Surrounds

Was going to also suggest Rythmik. SVS is another option to check out. The PB2000 would probably be the model most equivalent to the Hsu. PB-2000 Pro

    Matching ML to Klipsch Surrounds

You're doing the right thing with the front three by matching up the 50XTi center with the 60XTi's. That's the most important thing for having that seamless panning of sound across the front stage. You may notice a slight difference in timbre between the ML folded motion tweeters in the front...

I would cross both the Emotiva off the list. All the current gen use the same modules and switch mode power supplies. I think I've mentioned my experience previously with the XPA 2 Gen 3 powering ESL X's. It was meh. Dull and lifeless. Honestly, my Emotiva BasX A-800 (used for surround...

    Ear Pain from ESL's.

I wonder if Dirac does a better job at limiting where it applies its corrections. I was using ARC with my Anthem AVM 60 and even if I lowered the max correction frequency, it still seemed to have an undesirable effect on overall dynamics. I would like to use ARC only on my surround channels...

    Ear Pain from ESL's.

My guess is that Audyssey may have been a big source of the issue. It is pretty well documented that nearly all room correction applications struggle to get dipole speakers right. They can't really handle the inherent reflections and phase differences. IME, the speakers end up being overly...

    Speakers Against Wall

I've used the "twice the diameter of the woofer" rule of thumb for minimum placement from the front wall. It works ok. Of course, the farther out into the room you can get them, the better they will sound. I think ML OVERstates the recommended distance from the side walls and UNDERstates the...

That was an incredible write-up. Thank you for sharing. Very interesting about the intentional distortion added into the D'Agostino. One thing that stuck out at me were your comments about how much the 2160 made the bass deeper and punchier. I have noticed the same thing in auditioning...

Wow, would love to be there for that demo. I certainly don't want to make any extra work for anyone, but if you wrap up early with the stuff you're demoing and everybody's bored with nothing better to do, I would love to hear your feedback on the 15A's with either the McIntosh MC275 or 1502, if...

So after several more days of switching back and forth between the MA352 integrated and the MC152, I am definitely going to replace the MA352 with separates. The question is what. I know I want to stick with McIntosh. It will most likely be the C2700 tube pre, but not sure which amp. At this...

Thanks for the info and offer. Unfortunately I am way out here in Illinois. I think I’m probably using “warm” in a very loose sense. What I really mean is closer to the way you described it - not fatiguing. I associate fatiguing with being bright, bordering on harsh. So in my crazy mind, I...

I think you're spot on with your description of the McIntosh sound. What I think I'm hearing in my mind, is the McIntosh tube amp sound, which I'm thinking would give just that slightly more hint of warmness to the mids than what I'm hearing with a tube preamp and solid state amp in my MA352. I...

Thanks for the suggestion! I do know how much slight adjustments can change the sound dramatically. I've spent a lot of time adjusting toe-in as well as distance from front wall. I was going to play around with the rake angle next, but more so to tilt them forward to get them similar to the...

I am powering my Impressions with the 252’s big brother the MA352. I am enjoying it for the most part, but if I had one criticism it’s that it is not as “tubey” sounding as I had hoped. I feel like the highs are a little bright for me, and the midrange is not as warm sounding as what I associate...

Emotiva Amp for ML ESL X

Only a concern for the electrostats because of their <1 ohm impedance dip.The 60XTi's are rated at 4 ohms. I had a pair of 60XT's that I ran for a couple years with an XPA2. No issues.

Hi. I can't comment on the Aragon or Emotiva differential amps, but I've used two different Emotiva XPA's with with ESL X's and then Impression 11a's, as well as a couple other traditional box towers. The Gen 1 Emotiva - big and dynamic, but could be harsh. Great for home theater, not so great...

Center channel options for Esl 11s

I'm using the ESL C with my 11's that I was using with my ESL X's. It's a pretty good match. Panning across the front stage is relatively seamless. Placement is critical, particularly the vertical alignment. At first I was not that impressed. Muffled/boxy. Then I used the rear leveling feet to...
