Advice on using a subwoofer in an apartment

... and hopefully it's NOT YOU carrying the sub around! Looks like you're going slightly over-the-top for a "dorm room", but then again, isn't that why we are all here?! Seriously, tho' I would probably have put the speakers & the Marantz in, and waited for complaints from the kids. THEN...

Advice on using a subwoofer in an apartment

Hey Robert Couple of quick questions/observations: Is the apartment building timber or concrete construction? What is the coupling between the main/center speakers & the floor/furniture/stand? How critical are the listeners, or is this mostly for background music and/or movies? What...

    Synergy of ML and Nordost

Back in the 80's and 90's I had the opportunity to try numerous cable sets (speaker & interconnects) on a multiverse of high-end components. While I believe to my core that everyone has the right to their own (subjective) opinions, I'd never be able to justify anything more than nice, thick OFC...

    ML panel obscene pricing

Fun memories... only turntable I ever had (after the family PYE all-in-one-box) was a TD150 withe the Series II SME arm... re-plinthed it with some mahogany a friend of mine helped doing some inlays on. First speaker set up were KEF Cadenza's, then a lot of traveling had me "system-free" for...

    ML panel obscene pricing

In 2002 I bought new panels for my Aerius & SL3's. They were something like $400 & $600 per pair. Seems likee the major price hike occurred after the acqusition by Shoreview in 2005. They probably figured that cheap panel replacement was cannibalizing new speaker sales, so "make the batsards...

Why so many used ML electrostats listed for sale and less than a year old?

Hmmm.... well, then again, I AM young (at heart), single (dad)... all I need is a ton of plastic surgery & a few years at the gym and there MIGHT be other ways to get my mitts on his system.... Meantime, Robert, look after yourself and plan on hanging around for a long time for your...

    Custom ESL X Center?

I'm wondering if there have been any scientific papers written on what happens with ML ELS (Dipole) speakers operating in an anechoic chamber? My gut (important audiophile device that, the gut!) tells me it would sound accurate but somehow thin. I think that the nature of (open) ESLs...

Does Silver Conductive Paint work for panel diaphragm?

When you say "original" you mean ones you had to replace or new ones that never got used? If the latter, I'll grab 'em I might even have an empty box I can ship to you to pack 'em in, come to think about it! Can't afford this right now, but I want my SL3's to last as long as I do!!! Russ

    ElectroMotion ESL vs. Aeon I

Not that I'm aware of... and I've had a pair for 20 years. Replacement panels, not regular tweeter that I've seen, no location other than the mid-woofer box where it could be mounted.

    ElectroMotion ESL vs. Aeon I

At risk of jumping in on Robert's behalf... Replacing the panels is definitely do-able by anyone who can (carefully) swing a mallet and drive a (manual) screwdriver. If I recall correclty, replacement panels come with a 1-or-2 pager set of instructions. No real biggie...

    ElectroMotion ESL vs. Aeon I

If the NAD is Class D bridged, probably not a great fit... apparently contra-indicated by several amp manufacturers (driving ESLs, that is, where at high frequencies impedance drops below 1 Ohm...

    ElectroMotion ESL vs. Aeon I

Aragon should be great. Dunno anything about the NAD... how much does it weigh?! :D

    ElectroMotion ESL vs. Aeon I

If it were me, I'd find out how much replacement panels are for the Aeons, and offer the seller his asking price less that amount. If that does not fly, go with the ESLs. Matter of interest, what amps do you have?

Small world... Prior to mothballing my system (Anthem AVM Pre/Pro, Bryston 4B ST/9B ST and the SL3's), I had replaced the Anthem Pre-Pro with an MRX 500. My center was a Cinema, rears Aerius i's and an Earthquake Supernova 12 on LFE. The MRX500 did OK... the listening area is a combo living...
