    ESL 9 hissing and levels

Perhaps he edited his message, but he says the hiss is present even if the amps and preamp are powered down. If they're powered down and off for 5+ minutes, do you still hear the hiss or is it present only briefly after powering off the preamp and amps? You mention the speakers are 2 years...

    ReQuest bad panel or what?

Logically it's either the panel, the wiring or some component in the crossover. At their age, replacing the panel makes a lot of sense. If that *doesn't* solve the problem, is there anything in the crossover that is not available for replacement? If so, you may have to go to an external...

    Square Room with Electrostatics

You really want @JonFo or @ttocs to comment, but I think if you already understand the issues about distance from the wall for 13As (any ESL, really) and that's workable for you, you're likely to be ok. You'll probably need them 4' off the wall (to the front of the speaker), though 5' is likely...

    Go from ReQuest to what?

Your Requests are known to you, and you love their performance. Anything else might be as good, might be better in some ways, might be worse. You have a plan - a good one - to improve them with subwoofers and DSP bass correction. I suggest sticking with that plan. I am breaking in my new...

Renaissance ESL-15A full range or with Balanced Force 210 subs?

I'll back up @ttocs on this. Before running ARC on my BF subwoofers I had run the room correction on the processor I was using at the time. I think it was Audyssey XT32 equipped. Then after breaking in the subwoofers I ran ARC on those and re-ran the room correction. It was NOTICEABLY better...

Renaissance ESL-15A full range or with Balanced Force 210 subs?

Thanks Steve. That just sparked a question for me. I wonder if there's any way to run ARC against both the speakers and subwoofers at the same time. Does the current or beta version offer that option? FYI, running the full range custom filter on the BF210s, I've turned the speakers to -10 on...

Renaissance ESL-15A full range or with Balanced Force 210 subs?

@shellnut48 I'm curious how you ended up settling your setup. I'm currently breaking in my 15As and have the same pair of BF210s (and Illusion center), and I just loaded the custom low pass filter last night. I'm starting with the full range version, and I've tuned down the 25Hz levels on both...

    Hello from Michigan

Welcome! I like that "clean canvas" I'm seeing in some of your photos... We have a number of really talented, experienced members here who are wonderful resources (not me... just singing praises for the others.) They post good info that could well be useful to you and your customers. I'd...

Upgrade Renaissance ESL 15A feet, any advice?

Thank you @ttocs. Since they're intended to operate vertically, I'm fine without adding any tilt. Edit: though I'd understand wanting that flexibility for the 11A, 13A, etc. I would love to break them in *fast*... but the dog probably wouldn't appreciate it very much! I run it when I'm home...

Upgrade Renaissance ESL 15A feet, any advice?

I finally brought in my 15As from the garage. They were delivered a couple weeks ago, but I've been too busy to get into setting them up. They're now inside and in the system. I initially started with the long threads, but those literally bottomed out in the threaded body to get them...

Schiit Aegir, to power Vistas. Just no... right?

There’s a Sunfire Cinema Grand 5-channel amp in Upscale Audio’s used gear section, in case you’re interested…

2021 new gen Apple tv 4k Dolby Atmos Problems

It’s all about security Robert. I think the base iPad should be a really nice product, and not a ton of money. Great for browsing, as well as controlling Roon or music streamers. I respect choice and non-Apple products, but I think when it comes to tablets… well, Apple‘s product is the clear...

    Ear Pain from ESL's.

@JonFo Which of their models pairs best with the current 11a/13a/15a speakers? I may be interested in one in the next year, after my “play money” recovers from buying the 15As.

The CLX Art a true work of Art!

Congrats RJ! I have a couple of them now, bought in late 2020. My brother, who was “working from home” out of my place due to Covid, wanted "BASS!" and was fine with them while I was breaking them in, but after doing the ARC calibration he was shocked by how much the sound improved. He wasn't...

    Ear Pain from ESL's.

Thanks for linking that. It’s a good read. Does anyone understand how Sanders’ amps avoid the inefficiency of what I’ll call “waste heat”?

Upgrade Renaissance ESL 15A feet, any advice?

Well first, my 15As haven't arrived yet. Shawn just received notice that a pair is shipping and he's finding out if they're mine. So I can't answer anything about the existing foot spike. As ttocs mentioned, Isoacoustics makes these available for free. My vendor didn't have the Long Thread...

Just wanting to express my viewpoint

Welcome Kevin! I think the internet has promoted... antagonism in many forums. I don't personally feel there's a lack of enthusiasm for ML, but I'm sure there are posts here and elsewhere to support that opinion. For me, that's simply not the case. Bass is such a deceptive quality. Most...

    Ear Pain from ESL's.

I've even read that quality 30 watt amps are fine with the powered MLs. My initial plan a couple years ago was to eventually upgrade to 11As or 13As, and get a CODA or Pass Labs amp good for 30 or 60 watts. My plans changed, but an amp capable of the current doesn't need huge watt ratings to...

    Ear Pain from ESL's.

I think you're likely correct, and I think the other advice to you on amps is solid. I will add that the 11A drops to .6 ohms at 20 kHz, so you really do want an amp that's stable into 2 ohm and ideally doubles power from 8 ohms down to 4 ohms.
