Vantage Bass Boom in small room, options?

update.... Dirac plus a subwoofer or 2 helped a lot with taming bass, pretty much eliminated the bass issues - however the negative impact on everything else from Dirac was too large of a compromise. In the end, I reluctantly sold the Vantages, admitting failure in my small / challenging room...

Vantage Bass Boom in small room, options?

Thanks so much everyone, really appreciate it. I have tried some of the ideas but not others, and certainly not in combination with each other. Headed into the man cave now to experiment with your ideas and what I can adjust today (speakers, subwoofers and Dirac) Will report back....

Vantage Bass Boom in small room, options?

Thanks. Already have sub and high pass filter to vantages. Definitely helps but still boomy. Is plugging rear bass slots/ports effective at all? Speakers are 1m from rear wall.

Vantage Bass Boom in small room, options?

Thanks everyone, really informative! Advice helps me understand more about the inherent limitations of my room and also saves me from trying potentially expensive but ineffectual room treatments etc. Will give low frequency DSP on my subwoofers a try to at least rame the most obvious boom at...

Vantage Bass Boom in small room, options?

Hey guys, respectfully please don't clutter the thread with the magic box circular argument. It's simply not a solution I can consider. Any real world experience from others for the question asked?

Vantage Bass Boom in small room, options?

Looking for some expertise and experience on this. Loving the Vantages but struggling to tame the bass in my small, rectangular and not ideal listening room. It's 4.5m long by 2.2m wide, vantages at narrow end and around 0.8m from rear wall, toed in slightly (I've established this as best...

ML Summits to replace Quad ESL63? v SL3?

Thanks for detailed advice, very helpful but unfortunately the Summit X and beyond is far beyond my budget. In the end I took a punt on some significantly cheaper Vantages, hoping they will provide good competition for (or even replace) the incumbent Quad ESL63 + subwoofer. Will report back...

ML Summits to replace Quad ESL63? v SL3?

As a former, very happy SL3 owner that migrated to Quad ESL63 (plus subwoofer) I have always wondered about ML Summits being next natural step up. I have a small room (fine with SL3), a nice VTL ST150 valve amp and listen to a broad range of music. Any thoughts on relative merits if the Summits...

Faulty CLS IIZ 20th Anniversary - buy or avoid?

thanks for reply spkrdctr i don’t mind spending a bit of time, money and effort if overall cost is less than buying a good condition used pair - but used CLS in the uk are ultra rare and these ones are local. Given the fault description, I was naively hoping removing the panels, a thorough wash...

Faulty CLS IIZ 20th Anniversary - buy or avoid?

hi folks, looking for some advice. Opportunity possibly knocks to buy a pair of these lovely speakers, but they are sold as seen and one speaker is faulty. it is described by seller as ‘one of the speakers is producing a static noise in the top right hand side’ I would not be able to afford new...

CLS Panel version? upgrade on Quad ESL63!?

Thanks Rah, I wont have chance to demo (thanks COVID :-<) but seller is a reputable HIFI enthusiast and tells me that the only work done was 'some diodes were replaced' and everything else is original and well looked after. How do I know power modules match? Assuming panels are original do I...

CLS Panel version? upgrade on Quad ESL63!?

looking for some expert views from the forum I have always hankered after a full range CLS and now a CLS1 has come up. Question I have is what panel is fitted? see pic) It doesn’t look the same as martin logan website - maybe panel has been replaced at some point? My 2nd question is, will the...

Audio Research VT60 good match for SL3 Panels?

missed out on the AR VT60 :-< On using the two amps, they don't have the same gain, but I can adjust volume on both so I balance the 2 amps at normal listening volume and then only adjust volume of the source(s) afterwards. Its not perfect but works really well for me.

Audio Research VT60 good match for SL3 Panels?

hi all ML experts! I have the chance of a vintage ARC VT60 power amp (50-60 Watts, 6550 Valves) to power the panels on my ML SL3's (bass is handled separately via SS amp) I currently have a Kora Jupiter Power Amp (40-50W and EL84 tubes) which works pretty well in my small room at moderate...

    EAR Yoshino 834T Hybrid Integrated + SL3

Any thoughts on E.A.R. 834T hybrid integrated ? Thinking of trying one out on my martin logan panels (bi-amped - 834T would be feeding panel only) As a fan of tubes, hoping it might be best of both worlds on a fairly demanding low impedance load There is a review that gave a glowing...

CLS IIz 20th Anniversary better than my SL3 in small room?

looking for your expert advice. I have a pair of nice SL3 in my small, rectangular dedicated listening room (2.3m/9’ by 4.6m/18’) The SL3 work really well back 1m from at narrow end of room, only 4” from sides with a sub taking care of <80hz duties. Listening positionis basically at apex of near...
