The last I understood, ML would make replacement panels for any previous model. Anyone know of other exceptions to this policy?

Presumably the white room divider-like thingies are the GIK panels. Are they designed to be absorbent at the edges? Whether they are or not, it's doubtful they're anything close to 100%. You're probably getting early reflections from them. You may find you get better imaging without them...

    Commercial Dust Covers?

Not sure I understand the bit about the rear stator not holding charge. Both stators are at DC ground potential with respect to the diaphragm, which is what you want to remove dust from. Dust on the outside of the stators does no real harm.

Not sure if larger panels, by themselves, would improve staging. They might improve the size of the "sweet spot". They can also buy you a lower crossover point, giving you that ESL magic over a wider frequency range. Also, later ML hybrids (from what I've heard) offer better panel to woofer...

If you just feed the bi-wire bass connection, without doing anything else, you'll still be going through the internal LPF.

Low level hum isn't necessarily a problem you need a power regenerator to solve. It may, just by isolating from your house ground, but so would an isolation transformer. Either a piece in your chain has a faulty power supply, you're getting external pickup from somewhere, or you have a ground...

Another member appreciating Martin Logan parts support who thinks pricing is realistic. Read why.

I would say that if an expensive replacement part fails after about a year then a warranty replacement is something I would expect. That being said, I do appreciate the availability of panels for all models--especially since they no longer make a full range ESL--CLS or CLX. The panel is...

I am highly skeptical about Bell transmitting voice over a light beam with what he had in 1880. Photovoltaic cells were just being discovered in that decade, and there were no means of amplifying the tiny signals from them. Modulating a light beam to be picked up by it would have been another...

Lightning can do some strange things, just from the huge voltages and currents involved, and induced electromagnetic fields therefrom. But, yeah, travel through a fiber cable is pretty much out. And good call on the lightning surge blowing out the NIC on your MB. A NIC is actually transformer...

I'm having a hard time wrapping my head around that one. An HDMI over fiber optic system isn't just a cable, you also need a transmitter and receiver. It should in principle provide total galvanic isolation end to end, making it unlikely to be a cause for ground loops. They are on the pricey...

When Gordon Holt reviewed it that's exactly what he said: just buy it, and don't think about amplifiers any more.

A power amp isn't that complicated a circuit, especially a tube one. You can get generic schematics from David Manley's book, I think it's called "The Vacuum Tube Logic Book" or something to that effect, if you can find a copy. If you wanted a soft start you could probably use the kit that...

Looking at the Krell Showcase amp, it looks like instead of having a switch on each input to select balanced or unbalanced inputs (like my Parasound and Cambridge Audio PA's), jumpers are used to connect the - input to ground on the XLR jack. The center pin of the RCA in goes to the + in of the...

I concur with ttocs regarding the Latino monoblocks driving my CLS II's, except I didn't hear anything special about the soundstage compared to a good SS design. I've never experienced VTL's personally except at shows, but have Manley's book, where he boasts about the quality of his...

Other question: what happens if you leave the HDMI plugged into the TV, but have the power cord to the TV unplugged? And is there anything else plugged into the TV. I have had a somewhat similar problem, which I will describe below.

A power conditioner may or may not help. Unless it's capable of providing complete galvanic isolation between hot, neutral and ground of the input, and the output, it probably won't. It would require a large and expensive transformer to do that, which would not make it affordable. Even if you...
