Only power the panels when in use?

That's what I thought too until I read this review: https://www.stereophile.com/content/martinlogan-masterpiece-renaissance-esl-15a-loudspeaker Anyone know for sure?

Only power the panels when in use?

Apparently the new ESL line only power the panels when it detects a signal. This is to reduce dust build-up by not having the panels charged all the time. Would it be advisable to do that with older MLs? Specifically my Prodigies. I can easily hook things up so that the panels are only powered...

    Ear Pain from ESL's.

That's really weird, in all my years of being into home theater/audio I've never heard of getting ear pain unless the audio is unbearably loud for long periods. A few notes: 1. Cables are 100% not the problem, you can ignore that terrible advice. Funny, cables just happen to be the highest...

    Home Theater vs 2-Channel Music

I have a sort of "hybrid" system. The front speakers (Prodigies), amp (Bryston 4B SST) and subwoofer (Descent) are shared between my home theater source and my stereo preamp. Here's how it works - the amp has both balanced and single-ended (RCA) inputs. My stereo preamp goes into the balanced...

Soft high-pitch buzz from my Prodigies

I'm using the latest UNi Xonar drivers which should be fine. After some debugging I found out it is (at least partly) due to the cables between my PC and amp. Funny thing is they are really expensive Siltech Classic Anniversary RCA interconnects. I replaced them with Monster reference...

Soft high-pitch buzz from my Prodigies

After going through some of the suggestions and doing more testing I realized that the buzz goes away when I'm using an external DAC rather than through my Essence STX II sound card. So it looks like the speakers are fine. Will try to do more debugging to see if I can eliminate them later but as...

Soft high-pitch buzz from my Prodigies

The panels are new from ML and installed by the ML dealer. I'm not sure but I don't think it made the buzz when they were first replaced. No antenna but I have some Philips Hue lights as part of my home theatre system, which are all connected via power conditioners.

Soft high-pitch buzz from my Prodigies

My Prodigies when on emit a faint high-pitched buzz, almost inaudible from my listening position (I can sometimes hear it if I try, with no audio playing) but audible if I put my ear close to the panels. It happens on both speakers and is not affected by source audio volume. The panels are...

    CLS/CLS II Panel Replacement Instructions

Not sure if this applies to CLXs but you can try it and see http://akdatabase.org/AKview/albums/userpics/10004/Martin%20Logan%20Serial%20Decode.pdf

    Martin Logan Shower Cleaning PDF

Glad to hear of your successful outcome. However I'd caution against doing this annually as you are probably removing some amount of the conductive coating each time.

    Interesting eBay ad (not mine)

Wouldn't be useful because it depends on climate and other factors. Some last 6 years some last 20.

    Interesting eBay ad (not mine)

The Summit was launched in 2005. If the panels are worn out and need replacing at $3K then it won't be a good deal. That's why I'm so annoyed with ML's extortionate pricing on panel replacements.

    Interesting eBay ad (not mine)

This ad had me drooling. Check out those sweet Neoliths. https://www.ebay.com/itm/284079584871

Yes you are right. Set your fronts to large, everything else to small. Both the Prodigy and subwoofer will get the full range signal, including LFE. Try to find a channel tester video and make sure when it plays the LFE channel you can hear it.

    Depth i

That's correct. But note that by not using the sub out, your receiver or pre-amp will be adding the LFE channel to your fronts also (technically to any speakers set to "large"). So for any content that has a discrete LFE channel it will go to your Prodigies as well instead of just the subwoofer.

You need a subwoofer that has high-level (ie. speaker-level) inputs. You would run two sets of speaker cables, one pair to speakers and one pair to the subwoofer. See Paul from PS Audio explain the reasoning here

    Do replacement panels age?

I had Russ rebuild the panels for my Aeon i and Summits. I have 3 pairs of MLs: Prodigies, Aeon i and Summits. Had all for close to 10 years. The Prodigies were bought used from the local dealer with new panels, the other two were bought new. I live in Singapore (tropics, high humidity) so...

    Unable to figure this out.

Oils from our hands on the bulb can cause uneven heating and possibly cause it to explode. That's why you're supposed to replace tube amp tubes with gloved hands (I think...).

Reviews - what can be trusted?

I replaced the panels for my Prodigy a year or two ago from ML and the new panels look identical to the old. You get brand new panels, ML doesn't rebuild them.
