Which Amp to buy? The most frequently asked question on this site. READ THIS!!

It's not so much the tube but how the amp is designed around the tube that will be one of the factors in tube life. Some run like Formula1 engines and others scoot along like a Subaru for many years. All part of the fun

Which Amp to buy? The most frequently asked question on this site. READ THIS!!

I think one thing to keep in mind is that the early speakers respond/ need big watts and reserves to play right. The later ML's with powered subs like the 11, 13 and 15 seem to be much more efficient and less demanding. The SL3 and CLS II reveal significant differences between my MFA D75...

Which Amp to buy? The most frequently asked question on this site. READ THIS!!

It's an important part of the chain. It'd be fun to try a source to a quality tube premp to the Aragon without all the AV processing gear and see what you think. The strengths of the ML's is that they reveal component differences in not a subtle way.

Great to have that option to try it out. Good luck and let us know how things turn out

I had SL3's and I believe, your Prodigy's likewise need prodigious power to properly sing. Unfortunately -the minute you start looking at 120 watts and up prices shoot through the roof. You might consider a tube pre and a powerful SS amp. Many members, including myself, have used this...

Which Amp to buy? The most frequently asked question on this site. READ THIS!!

I am currently using the ML Impressions and 1502 and very happy with the combination. . I like the big soundstage, detailed, but not fatiguing, and tight controlled bass. Big change going from my CJ Premier 16 to a Backert Labs Pream also. I'm hearing drums , rim shots and percussion...

I agree with Mr. B. I have and all tube system with a MC1502 with Autoformers. The mids are fast, highly detailed but definitely lean to the cooler side. That is the Mac sound for me. I like it a lot it but it is a completely different flavor from my previous system with SL3's, and VTL MB...

Newer models similar to CLS II?

As a fellow CLS II owner, the only newer model to compare to is the now discontinued CLX. The CLX is light years ahead in technology and sound amazing as many owners here will attest too. The rest are hybrids and are improved in many ways as Roberto has highlighted in the past. I...

Backert Rhumba 1.3 Extreme in the system

Was starting to make a short list of preamps to replace my stellar but aging Premier 16LS2. I had listened to the Mac 2700 and was considering the C22. I was loaned the Backert and was very impressed. Took control of the system, big soundstage with distinctly placed instruments, articulate...

Yes, I'd like to hear it HAL. Sing it for me. (preferably through ML's) Welcome aboard!

    System #466 (Summit X)

Beautiful set up. Looks like you have a lot of hard, reflective surfaces. Have you considered room treatments? I have been very happy with the Macintosh MC1502 and the 11A pairing. Enjoy.

I don't even know what it is, but Darth Vader would be envious. Just make sure it's grounded correctly. Looks like fun. Enjoy

You are spot on regarding the F1/SUV comparison. Years ago I attended 2 PCA Drivers Ed events and came away with the same feeling. What's the point of having an incredible car that one utilizes 25% of its capabilities 90% of the time? Although Steve McQueen never drove no SUV! Enjoy!

    Obsessive hobbies....

The 928 was phenomenal. I would love to have one but the potential mechanical issues make me think twice. My wife had a Cayenne for awhile and when I would make fun of it she would remind me that it saved the Porsche Co. (True) Next frontier is how the whole line moves to electrification.

Ditto- plan on keeping the 1995 911 Cabriolet. Learned my lesson from selling a 1973 911 Targa many years ago....

What a great interview. Art Dudley was a shining star in the audio world and is truly missed. Hopefully Mr. Ledermann is feeling better. I enjoyed his description of the charity work and hope to obtain one of those albums. (esp Pousette-Dart!) Thanks for sharing Dave!

    Detroit Area Newbie

Welcome. You are now under the ML spell. The speakers may not be in as bad a shape as you think. I don't think that Yamaha can adequately meet the power requirements of the ML. You need at least a 100 watt amp that can double its output from 8 ohm to 4 ohm. There is thread dedicated...

Options for refreshing/replacing my 28 year old CLS speakers.

Definitely checkout the 11's or the 13's. Welcome to audition the CLS and 11's if you happen to visit the east coast. Good luck!
