Martin Logan Theater center-channel panel rebuild

The link leads to my blog page, which shows as yellow font on a black background when I open it. I suppose it could have been in EDIT mode when you opened it, or our computers translate it differently. Is anyone else seeing a WHITE background on the writeup page?

Martin Logan Theater center-channel panel rebuild

Hey all, sorry for the bad link... it's fixed. I had to paste it into a different linked project so ignore the label... it works. http://jazzman-esl-page.blogspot.com/2011/11/compensating-diplole-phase-cancellation.html

Is the link not working for anyone else? It's working fine for me... maybe it was saving an edit. Please try it again.

Martin Logan Theater center-channel panel rebuild

A while back I posted an offer to walk someone thru a panel rebuild, for the purpose of creating a panel rebuild guide. Someone took me up on this offer and I've just completed rebuilding a ML Theater panel. The process is unique to the Theater panel but can be adapted to other panels. I...

    Panel rebuild guide?

At this time, I'm not interested in doing this as a business but i'm happy to share the know-how. I can't post the Theater panel rebuild-guide here apparently, so I may add it to my speaker blog (Jazzman's DIY ESL Page) and post a link to it here. The first attached photo shows me verifying...

Help posting a panel rebuild guide?

Hi all, I have step by step rebuild guide for a ML panel but its too extensive to post in a thread. I put it in a Word File but I can't attach that to a thread. Any ideas! Thanks, Charlie

    Panel rebuild guide?

Update April 1, 2024: Not an April Fool's joke... Someone took me up on my offer, and I've just finished rebuilding a ML Theater panel. I will be posting a step-by-step procedure shortly so stay tuned.

Reviving older ESLs - burn-in required?

It probably wouldn't be smart for anyone to "guarantee" a panel repair without first dismantling and inspected it for burn-throughs on the stator coatings or other physical damage. Absent such damage, any panel can be refurbished.

Reviving older ESLs - burn-in required?

Some may disagree with me but I think the only break-in that occurs with an ESL is a slight relaxation of the diaphragm's tension, which occurs and stabilizes within a few months of use, after fabrication. It's improbable that both speakers would exhibit the symptoms described if the problem...

Anyone still streaming with a Squeezebox Touch or Transporter?

I'm not sure I can answer your question because I'm not very computer smart, and I don't know if SB Touch operates the same way as Transporter, using the Logitech Media Server (LMS) Interface to connect with a steaming service like Tidal or Spotify. With my Transporter, I have LMS loaded on...

Anyone still streaming with a Squeezebox Touch or Transporter?

Just curious if anyone here is still streaming from a Logitech device (Transporter or Squeezebox Touch). If so; you're probably seeing a "QR Code" pop-up message on its Media Server platform. The reason is that MySqueezebox.com will soon be shutting down the link between Media Server and...

Is it safe to use a compressed air duster on my panels?

I would use vacuum-- but blowing the panels out with compressed air won't hurt them if you crank down the pressure a bit and don't place the nozzle closer than about a foot away. I've used compressed air on to blow out speakers with 6 micron diaphragms, and ML diaphragms are twice that...

2 Sets of ESL's for bigger sweet spot

My speaker are less directional than other ESLs but I too aim my speakers to cross slightly behind the listening position, which I believe provides an optimal compromise between imaging and width of the sweet spot. It's been pointed out that a wider sweet spot is a trade-off with imaging...

2 Sets of ESL's for bigger sweet spot

I second Leporello's point that getting greedy with the sweet spot will sacrifice some of the virtues of limited dispersion. Essentially; you can have a wide sweet spot or a precise image but physics doesn't allow having it all. You can only choose a compromise that best suits you. What you...
