Just wanting to express my viewpoint

In my opinion, ML’s have increased in price too much for what you get. For the price of one of their subs, you could get two better-performing subs from Rythmik, PSA, or similar. And there are plenty of speaker options that are just as good for half the price. I seriously doubt the Renaissance...

Cheap solid state stereo power amp to drive 13a's for ocasional HT use (to save tube life of main amp)

Honestly, for that application, I would consider a basic pro amp from Crown or something like this QSC: https://www.amazon.com/QSC-RMX1450a-Stereo-Power-Amplifier/dp/B0002FOJXW/ref=dp_prsubs_1?pd_rd_i=B0002FOJXW&th=1

    KLH Model Nine’s Incoming

Honestly, it’s hard to compare without having them in the same room on the same equipment. He was streaming from a Bluetooth audio source direct to a very basic pro amp in a pretty small room (by my standards) with some basic acoustic treatments, and the speakers sounded great. The electrostatic...

    KLH Model Nine’s Incoming

I auditioned them when I dropped off my Nine’s. They’re fantastic speakers. It’s a hybrid electrostat similar to ML’s but much more compact. They are very esthetically pleasing, but still have that electrostat magic.

Cosmos, very interesting stuff. Cool that you got to host a room with two pair, but a shame about the amp mishap. I highly recommend you give David Janssen a call just to shoot the sh!t with him. He probably knows more about these particular speakers than anyone alive and has restored many...

Cosmos, thanks for the reply. I am familiar with the bracket and the benefits of putting two pairs together. Unfortunately, I don’t think my wife would allow that in our den. Maybe some day. Can’t believe you own 7 pairs of these! That’s insane! Have you had any of them refurbished by David...

    KLH Model Nine’s Incoming

Given that they’ll be in the den, the subs will be placed based on esthetics vs. where they would sound the best (and we all know from experience that those two factors rarely coincide). Which is one reason I want some room correction for the bass. Most probably the subs will be on the front...

I will be using ported subs in the theater. I think ported subs are absolutely a necessity for home theater applications. They simply have more output in the lower regions so critical for movie effects. But I prefer sealed subs for music-only applications. And sealed just happen to be smaller...

I’m thinking about a pair of these: S1512 Not too large for the den, but capable of a lot of quality bass output. And these PSA woofers are fast. Stop and start on a dime. Perfect match for electrostats.

Been awhile since I posted and I wanted to update you guys on my journey with these vintage speakers. The sound of the refurbished pair of Model Nines is sublime. Imaging and detail in spades. Better even than any ML I’ve listened to (and I’ve heard a lot of Martin Logan’s!). Being a full range...

That would be an ideal way to set up these speakers. But alas, not in the cards for me. I’ll put these in my den in the new house, where I’ll never need to play them too loudly. Besides, I’ve got my Summits for when I want to really crank it up. And they’ll be in a soundproof...

Yeah, David said I don’t need to give them more than about 40 volts. Above that, the woofer panels can arc and put pinholes in the film. I think I may try the Sanders anyway and just be very careful with the volume knob. Ultimately, I think these won’t play as loud as the Summits due to not...

This photo shows the back of the power supply before I attached it to the speaker. All the electronics are potted in wax.

Well, the Model Nine’s finally arrived back from David Janszen. They were impeccably packed. In fact, I’m not sure I’ve ever received a shipment so well packaged. Well worth the cost of shipping them (which was steep). I mounted the power supplies to the panels and set them up hooked up to the...

    Front Wall Treatment for Electrostats

Either will work well to improve imaging and sound staging. But I have found through extensive testing, in my room and my system, that having the speaker panels about five feet from the front wall (to delay the rear wave reflection) and having well diffusers behind the speakers provides much...

    KLH Model Nine’s Incoming

We had planned to build earlier, but couldn’t decide what we wanted to build. Then we got sidetracked by having a kid. It’s all good, though. I think I’m much more capable of managing the build now than I was then. We have a 2” city water line to the house site, as well as a couple of our own...

Yeah, it’s tough these days. I got extremely lucky with my land. Bought it 22 years ago, before everything in this town blew up in value. It’s a 28 acre square in the valley. All flat land. And the hills around it are all State Park or Land Trust owned, with lots of trails. We are exactly 15...

    KLH Model Nine’s Incoming

My home theater/media room will be 19’ wide by 23’ long with 10’ ceilings. Although some of that length will be used for a baffle/screen wall. I’ll have a JBL 9.4.6 system in there, and probably the Summits as well. But I’m planning to put the Model Nine’s and CJ tube gear in my den, which is...
