    Building Custom Home Theater

Been a long time since I’ve posted, so I thought I would give a quick update. The house is almost finished. We just got our certificate of occupancy and plan to move in during the month of October. Been a long slow slog to get this house done, but we are finally (almost) there. I’ve still got to...

    Tubes or Solid State

Tubes can be awesome with ESL’s. Just depends on the design of the tube amp and in particular the beefiness of its power supply. I have powered my Martin Logan Summits with a Conrad Johnson Premier 140 tube amp for years with sublime results. Interestingly, though, the same amp gives out trying...

    Building Custom Home Theater

I will be using a Trinnov processor branded under JBL (SDP-75). But unfortunately I designed the theater prior to Trinnov coming out with WaveForming, and additional subs are not in the picture. Hopefully, Trinnov comes up with a way for their technology to work well with four subs in the room...

    Building Custom Home Theater

The fabric is acoustically transparent. Which just means sound waves can pass through it with minimal loss. And yes, the walls and ceiling are decoupled. And the communicating entry doors are soundproof. They weigh 400 lbs. each!

    Building Custom Home Theater

Thanks, Jon. Yes, the screen wall will be covered in speaker fabric. The drywall area around the front speakers will be covered with a 2” thick cotton absorption mat. I forget the brand name of the one I’m using. Edit: found it… Soundaway Ultraliner sound blanket. UltraLiner Sound Blanket -...

    Building Custom Home Theater

The plug is constructed of plywood and bracing and filled with rockwool insulation. It is sized for a tight fit (1/8” gap all around) with felt strips on the outside so the wood doesn’t actually contact the window frame. It will be caulked in place to seal it. All walls will be covered in...

    Building Custom Home Theater

Hey guys, sorry but I have been swamped with other aspects of the house build. It’s a 7000 sq.ft. house and the home theater is just one small part of that. The theater has been on the back burner the last couple of months while I’ve been focusing on other stuff. But I should be moving forward...

Watch out if you have a relatively new garage door opener

Respect! The most I’ve ever squatted was 315 lbs. for 5 reps. Doing much less than that for higher reps now. I’m currently losing weight, so can’t seem to go as hard in the gym.

    Absorption or Diffusion?

I think the bass panel trap is a good idea. It should absorb the entire frequency range of the rear wave from the electrostatic panel. Whether or not the diffusion strips they put in those panels will help is an open question. I don’t have experience with them, so don’t know how effective they...

    Taking the AI plunge

Yes, ran tons of Cat6 and planned for about 8 cameras. Plenty of good spots for wired access points. No metal studs. The interior framing is wood. But the exterior walls and one interior wall that runs the length of the house are concrete. I’ll hit you up when I’m ready to figure things out...

A Sincere From My Heart Question Regarding the Future of ML ESL

I totally get what you guys are saying about comparing the 15A to the Summit. I was comparing top of the line when I bought to top of the line now (excluding the Uber-expensive Neolith). But you’re right that it’s not really apples to apples since the 15A has a lot more panel surface area and...

    Taking the AI plunge

Wow! The Papillon piece is gorgeous! Tell Liz I love it! I’m going to have to find time to get into this stuff. Don’t know when, though. Not until this house is built. I totally forgot about that! I’m going to need to contact you by I.M. or email and discuss this with you. I’m planning out...

A Sincere From My Heart Question Regarding the Future of ML ESL

Not too surprising, I suppose. When a high end independent company gets bought out by a big conglomerate/investment firm, the bottom line becomes the only consideration. First, prices rise well beyond what the product is worth, leveraging the brand name. Then, when sales/profits fall, the brand...

    Whatever happened to Joey V.?

Haven’t seen a post from him since 2016 or so and just wondering whatever happened to “the kid.” I’m sure he’s a full grown man and medical doctor now. Maybe has no time for audio hobbies and electrostatic speakers. But I’m curious if he ever checks in from time to time. Anyone heard anything...

Wow. Just, wow! Really cool stuff. Thanks for sharing. As a photographer, I’m particularly interested in the ai image generating technologies.
